Phuket officials ban alcohol in restaurants, ‘social activities’ ‒ again

So, they booked weeks ago with certain expectations, but the rules have changed, and they're not allowed to do those things now.

That'll play well when they get interviewed after they get home.

Anyone who books any holiday abroad at the moment is, IMO, asking for whatever happens to them.

Al least those who are using this as a way back in will get what they want.

Yeah that's all it is now, an alternative to ASQ. No genuine 2 week package type tourist will be interested in coming to Phuket when there are plenty of better places without these restrictions closer to home.

You'd have to be mad to come to Thailand as a tourist right now. If I wasn't committed to a 14 year career here I'd be long gone, back home until Thailand gets it's act together.

Do you understand the situation correctly? It is sad that people don't have income anymore. But they should be happy to be still without health problems. There are numbers every day. Let's take todays number of more than 20000. Now multiply this with seven days of a week. Then we have 140000 people. The hospitals cannot handle this anymore. It is a much bigger problem than that some people might not have an income anymore.

This thread is to my understanding about Phuket's Sandbox, not Thailand as a whole.

Compared to many other countries Thailand as a whole is not that bad, but of course bad enough...

Statistics from 31st July (you can find daily updates on WorldOmeter HERE, active cases today 4th August is 3,015 per million)...

Thailand...

total cases per 1 million: 8,534

deaths per 1 million: 69

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 2,864

vs.

Denmark (my own "safe" Scandinavian home country)...

total cases per 1 million: 54,362

deaths per 1 million: 438

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 1,916

Germany...

total cases per 1 million: 44,901

deaths per 1 million: 1,096

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 350

Norway (where a Norwegian man in another article today is escaping to)...

total cases per 1 million: 25,146

deaths per 1 million: 146

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 8,728

Sweden...

total cases per 1 million: 108,196

deaths per 1 million: 1,438

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 923

UK...

total cases per 1 million: 85,407

deaths per 1 million: 304

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 17,622

USA...

total cases per 1 million: 107,143

deaths per 1 million: 1,889

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 16.233

Those are numbers since when? I'd be interested in numbers since  1 July 2021.

You'll be waiting a long time for Thailand to get its act together, not only because of the damage that has been wreaked by the Covid virus, but the damage that has been done to the small to medium-size businesses here, many of which will probably never recover.

And that of course flows down to the poor, who have become poorer, so I believe it will be some time before Thailand ever reclaims any of its former glory.......and the other fly in the ointment is the government who are only interested in themselves and their rich elite friends.

Sad days indeed.

You report a lot of numbers here. But all your numbers don't show how the health care situation is. And Thailand has reached at many locations the limit of what they can handle.

Thailand have up till very recently placed everybody that tested positive in hospital care, during 2021 asymptomatic cases primary in field hospitals. Other countries mainly use home quarantine, so-called self-isolation, instead for asymptomatic cases.

You can for example read moire about self isolation in UK HERE and HERE.

How is the situation in for example UK or Norway?
And how would it be if all active cases were hospitalized...?

I am not sure what you want to show. How harmless Covid is in Thailand or what?

Yep, it's insane putting asymptomatic 'patients' into the health care system using up valuable resources when those people are not even sick.

One of many ridiculous decisions, along with these nonsensical alcohol bans.

It is not like this. It is just your assumption.

So e.g., since 31 July for Denmark 54,000 cases per 1 mio inhabitants. 6 MiO inhabitants so 324.000 cases in 4 days. Sorry, I don't believe those numbers.

It is absolutely sad that Phuket Sandbox has failed. As an Expat we all hoped that this would kickstart the Phuket economy. For what ever reason this has been made a real meal of !!
Maybe the Governments of this world learn that over governing is not the solution.

Do you read what's written?

It says "total cases", which is what have been officially reported since the epidemic began, active cases are number of Covid-19 positive reported on the day of the statistics...

Denmark (my own "safe" Scandinavian home country)...

total cases per 1 million: 54,362

deaths per 1 million: 438

active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 1,916

You need the "per 1 million" figure to compare.

If you believe or not is up to you, but it's official governmental data; did you care to check the link?

Denmark reported for August 4th, population 5.814 million...

total cases per 1 million: 55,074

deaths per 1 million: 439

new cases: +927

active cases: 11,348

Thailand reported for August 4th, population 69.990 millions...

total cases per 1 million: 9,607

deaths per 1 million: 79

new cases: +20,200

active cases: 211,076

I think you'll find that not having an income will in the long term be just as great a health risk, if not more so, than covid; homeless and starving is not a great alternative lifestyle. Thailand is not a welfare state.

So not cases since 31 July as you wrote earlier. Maybe you mean 'per'?

To look at what is happening now we need present numbers, not from march 2020.

I don't know what you are reading?

Where do you see anything from March 2020?

Covid numbers skyrocket when you mass test asymptomatics (every relative of some one "with" covid or who has been near some one "with" covid gets tested). With this little trick there would be pandemic and "oh now it's parabolic" even if you tested for Mickey Mouse virus for the error rate alone..

It's mathematics and statistics not conspiracy.

As you said, since the epidemic began, so since March 2020. Therefore totally irrelevant to the present situation.
