Anyone planning to travel to the USA in the near future?

Featured Replies

Is anyone planning to travel to the USA in the next month or two?  I am tentatively planning to fly back to the US in mid September.  I would like to hear from anyone that is traveling in the next month or so.  How did it go?  Any things things that I should watch for.  I am especially interested in how the Covid test went.  Where did you go?  Any things of which I should be aware.  My greatest fear is that the test will come back positive and I will get stuck in an expensive quarantine.  I would appreciate any input that I can get that might make the process easier.  Thanks in advance.

Neighbor + some family departing ~ 15 August, children going back for HS and college. All have U.S. (and some have Thai) passports.

One parent is returning, via ASQ in Bangkok, early September.

They're sorting the RT-PCR test now.

Note that for Non-U.S. citizens:

Quarantine is as expensive, or inexpensive as you choose.

Mandatory insurance would cover a positive test and transition to partner hospital.

Thanks for the reply.  I do have insurance so maybe I should not be too worried.  I noticed in the CDC document that describes the requirements to enter the US that they accept either the RT-PCR test or the Rapid Antigen test.  Any thoughts on which is better?  Are they both available here in Thailand?  Some people say the RT-PCR test can produce false positives if they use too high of an amplification setting.  I am healthy so I am not expecting a positive but the uncertainty of it makes planning the trip a real pain.

what airport you flying into?  Beware that just like last year, some cities airports may require you to register, fill out forms in paper or online, etc before leaving the airport.  New York sure did that last year.  Not sure what is in effect at the moment and it may change so be alert and check on things and be prepared if necessary

I will be arriving in Chicago.  I will do some checking on the arrival requirements.  Thanks for the heads up.

I can hear all the "racism crybabies" crying "racism foul" on this one! 555 GOD forbid America close it's doors...

Ironic though that it's the "Biden administration" that came up with this. These are the same people that called Trump a racist for doing something similar to this and then a month later blaming him for not doing it sooner... Biden is more likely to get full support from the Republican party than he is his fellow Demarcates.
