Thailand's daily COVID-19 cases and deaths both set records again on Friday (Aug 6), as the country continues to battle a surge in infections, the majority of which are of the highly contagious Delta variant.

Data from the Ministry of Public Health showed that Thailand reported 21,379 new COVID-19 cases and 191 deaths over the last 24 hours.

484 of the new infections were found among the prison population.

There was however a slight degree of optimism in Friday's data, with number of recoveries outnumbering the number of new cases.

Health officials said that 22,172 had been discharged from hospital or quarantine facilities having made a full recovery.

Friday's new cases brings the total number of cases in Thailand since April 1, the start of the so-called 'third wave' to 685,821, while 212,926 patients are still being treated.

Thailand has reported a total of 714,684 cases and 5,854 fatalities since the pandemic began last year.

With almost 100,000 covid positive reported to be in home isolation in Bangkok and another 100,000 from Bangkok transferred to provincial hospitals the situation is bleak, considering that testing rates in Bangkok have shot up to 20% positivity, an alarming figure. The spread has now gained foothold in the North East and throughout Thailand.

These Chonburi numbers are total BS…they do not reflect reality. The numbers do not just level out as was proven to be correct when looking at Bangkok cases a few weeks back.

Not saying that the numbers are accurate.

However I was just looking at weekly averages say first half of June compared to current numbers.

The bigger picture is the weekly average increase.

Week or so back some folk were saying Bangkok numbers on the decline.

What's your take on Chonburi. Do you think that the numbers could be much higher or .....

Great insight from far away Gold Coast.?

Good point about weekly averages.

When Bangkok numbers were level for days on end I thought it didn’t make sense as the nature of a pandemic simply doesn’t work like that. Numbers are either shooting up or falling down and that exactly what has played out in Bangkok.

I don’t think they are lying I think they are just suppressing numbers through inadequate testing. Bangkok was forced to test more (so it seems but no numbers available) and when Chonburi is forced to do the same (if they even can) then numbers will also shoot through the roof just as they have everywhere else in the world.

Well , what did you expect .... IMHO it' logic if you got new highs every day , you will have record breaking recoveries also . 10.000 infected , 5 die , 100 go hospital long time , 9850 go home fully recovered . Since it is a daily schedule , i expect daily recoveries to boom also . It might sound great but really it isn't .

I'm getting very confused with the numbers apart from infections and deaths still creeping up. Today 21,379 new infections, 22,172 which they are calling recovered and from another media source nearly 100,000 in BKK alone placed into home isolation so what's the number of home isiolations from the provinces and almost 100,000 being transferred to their home provinces and from this aricle 212,962 patients still being treated. I'm guessing that a % of those in home isolation are the green patients who are positive and close contacts of positive cases who may or may not be positive but I don't know. On the other hand I'm guessing that those being transferred to their home provinces are positive. Maybe someone can sort this out coz it's giving me a headache. As of now just how many positive cases are there in Thailand. Is it 212,962, 100,00 of which are being or have been transferred to their home provinces? What about the % of the 100,000 in home isolation who are positive andrecieving care?

Like I say I'm a bit confused with this so if anyone gives the confused emoji for my post I totally understand.

Correct.

You need to follow where the cases in Chonburi are, the clusters, the workplaces, the families involved ,the tracing and the timelines released daily. It’s not BS ! TPN is good with info.

I am led to wonder if the optimism derived from the number of people exited from hospital or quarantine is based on a lot of asymptomatic cases being shipped out to the provinces and either now home "quarantined" or in small localized "observation" units.

The amount of hospital ambulance traffic with lights and sirens at max  speed passing by here in Isaan territory is very noticeable as a multiple daily event. Rare to see a privately operated EMS vehicle by comparison with the roads significantly quieter than usual perhaps impacting their more usual function.

--Record high number of new COVID cases for the day at 21,379 (+459), the first time above 21,000, the third consecutive day of record highs and the third consecutive day of 20,000+ cases. The number of general population cases, excluding prison cases, also set a new record high at 20,895.

--Total COVID cases since the start of the pandemic passes the 700,000 mark for the first time, hitting 714,684 with today's update.

--Record high number of new COVID deaths at 191, passing the prior record of 188 set just two days ago. Total COVID deaths rises to 5,854.

--Record high number of COVID patients hospitalized in critical condition at 4,999 (+6), up from 4,993 the day before, even with the 191 new deaths.

--Number of critical COVID patients on ventilators declines from 1,058 to 1,038, largely due to the record high number of deaths for the day.

--Because of the high number of patients (22,172) listed by the government as released/recovered, the total number of active cases under treatment declined for the first time in memory, falling from 213,910 to 212,926.

Among the day's new COVID cases, the number of walk-in cases declined day over day from 17,312 to 16,812. But the number of cases from outreach testing increased from 3,338 to 4,073. And the number of prison cases increased day over day from 262 to 484. There also were 10 new cases among quarantined international travelers.

most seem to be from malls markets and family members households of those infected, these are found through targetted testing

you seem to be trying to convince yourself that all is well in Pattaya - I can assure you it isn't

That again would be a new record high daily case count for Bangkok, greatly passing yesterday's prior record case count of 4,140. It also is Bangkok's third consecutive day of 4,000+ new cases.

This graph below, as of yesterday and prior to today's increase and update, shows the recent uptick in new cases in Bangkok:

There is the statistic that flies in the face of this Governments belief that cases are on the decline in BKK. Add to this the numbers in home isolation from a positive Antigen only test and you wonder what the real numbers could be.  GF's daughter was sent home yesterday evening after 2 weeks in a hospital being treated for symptoms and covid. Family was told she is recovered but still needs to isolate for two more weeks and take the medicines she was released with.  How is a person recovered if they still must isolate and take medicine.  What a crock of feces filled nonsense.
