I'll clue ya that in days of Covid where is it utter madness to be coupling with an unknown woman, or a man for that matter, these items will feel a void one would think, but than the guardian of our morals thinks otherwise...

'these items will feel a void one would think'.

Sadly these poor items will go to the trash without ever having felt a warm moist void. RIP.

I believe you meant 'fill a void', and indeed they are intended to do just that.......fill a void where a woman feels empty and un full filled, so to speak. No doubt this arrest was the climax of a long and multi-pronged investigation, a riveting case with many ins and outs. Kudos to the BiBs for penetrating this lascivious crime enterprise. We men can all sleep soundly now knowing we still have a job.

That being said, like many things in Thailand, illegality is a fluid concept. Sidewalk vendors on Sukhumvit deal in such novelty items, along with bedroom pharmaceuticals, switchblade knives and brass knuckles, and I have been to a downtown market where dozens of vendors sell these carnal novelties, while the vendors next to them have table after table of e-cigarette machines and associated paraphernalia, which---to my understanding---are also illegal.

Money talks. Or...money turns heads the other direction.  Apparently, these two did not have enough to 'license' their operation.

From Thailand's Criminal Code:  --  Section 287. Pornography

Whoever:

  1. For the purpose of trade or by trade, for public distribution or exhibition, makes, produces, possesses, brings or causes to be brought into the Kingdom, sends or causes to be sent out of the Kingdom, takes away or causes to be taken away, or circulates by any means whatever, any document, drawing, print, painting, printed matter, picture, poster, symbol, photograph, cinematograph film, noise tape, picture tape or any other thing which is obscene;
  2. Carries on trade, or takes part or participates in the trade concerning the aforesaid obscene material or thing, or distributes or exhibits to the public, or hires out such material or thing;
  3. In order to assist in the circulation or trading of the aforesaid obscene material or thing, propagates or spreads the news by any means whatever that there is a person committing the act which is an offence according to this Section, or propagates or spreads the news that the aforesaid obscene material or thing may be obtained from any person or by any means,

shall be punished with imprisonment not exceeding three years or fined not exceeding six thousand Baht, or both.

***

From the above, it would seem (to me at least) that [1] bringing the products into the country, and [2] using them for one's own personal use is not illegal.

Q: And who gets to decide what is "obscene" ?  [  ---  Sex-Toys have clearly been identified by the Authorities as being "obscene".]   --    And that old chestnut, when does "Art" become "Pornography" ?   For example is the statue, or an image of the statue, of the Venus de Milo "obscene" ?

I am so glad that they are keeping this nation safe, and protecting the children from moral decline. Outstanding use of police.

Ya gotta wonder if the cops aren't thinking, "Man, do I really have to arrest this person..."

They were charged with importing and handling illegal goods, distributing them for trade purposes and having items without the requisite customs labels,

If they are illegal then there are no requisite customs labels. I think we all know as well that the lack of any customs paperwork is probably due to a donation to the custom officers condominium and Mercedes fund.
