Probably because the police are protecting the PM (who stole power illegally) from the Thai people. As we saw a couple of days ago when a gang of thuggish Thai cops kicked those young protesters off their bikes, shot rubber bullets at them and beat them as they lay on the ground.

 

Not to mention that the Army is equally as corrupt, as we saw with ol' fatty and his collection of Rolexes borrowed from a dead friend. Or the convicted drug dealer tipped by some to be Prayut's replacement.

 

They're all as bad as each other. There will be no cleanup, only the occasional conviction of low hanging fruit to pretend they are tackling the issue, and only when deemed absolutely necessary because the stench has become too obvious and too odious for even the downtrodden Thai people to pretend to ignore.

That s an interesting question. I remember during the "Bangkok Shutdown" , which was supposed to lead to mass reforms, Jonathon Head interviewed Dr Seri Wongmontha on stage during a rally. Dr Seri minced a little about how "Thai people accept some corruption but Thaksin went overboard" then he went into full rant mode about how    "...... you have to understand the context of Thailand before you can talk about Thailand".

 

Basically saying that Thailand is partly about corruption.

I think it was sent by one of the junior police at the station. He daren't send it himself in case he ended up as another "drug overdose".

It's almost funny when now the "authorities" are shocked and they promise us they will find out why he was unusually rich. Obviously they will concentrate on this one police officer only.

 

Because if they would check many, especially high ranking, officers then it would be apparent that Joe Ferrari wasn't really unusually rich. I am sure it is not unusual for police officers to be a lot richer than their salaries would suggest. I guess they all are lucky in the lottery - probably karma because they are all working hard to serve and protect. TiT ????

I don't know the real story..but the young lady next door to me for awhile had a policeman as a boyfriend (not around anymore) but he would come over to her house a couple of times a week when they were dating and he had at least 5 cars/trucks that I counted...all pretty new and fairly high end. I think the level of corruption is so incorporated into the system that nobody really gives it a second thought except of course when you murder someone on video.

Almost every Thai has someone in their family or close friends that is a Cop, as some sort of "power"...and yes, the dumb foreigners think that gives them some "power" or false confidence or insurance.

 

I used to enjoy the new foreigners in Phuket starting a business (usually entertainment) saying everything will be fine - because we have a Cop as a shareholder. Until they are making losses upon  losses and that Cop comes around every month for his cut - regardless if they are losing money. They soon find out the "benefit" of having a Thai Cop too close...
