A fellow told me that the best meat pies to be had are available at a small shop in a village just in from Surin Beach - but I could not findthe shop. Haven't found any decent standard meat pies in Patong. Strangest one I ever had was at the Expat many years ago - shaped like a thatched hut (complete with eves) and filled with vegetables. Where is the best standard meat pie on the island?

Don's Deli at Rawai make a good meat pie at quite a reasonable price.

The Deli on Rat-u-tit (past the main Patong post office) sell Sheila's Pies and more recently pies made by an Australian lady. I've long time bought Sheila's pies, but now I prefer the Australian Lady's pies.

Anyone else have any recommendations and I'll be off there right away to check the pies out.

They sell Susan's "lady pies" at Jimmy's lighthouse in Chalong which may be closer... Her shop is in Cherng talay on the right just passed the dragon bridge.

But where can I get good pork pies these day ..... ?? Best I used to be able to find was at the place in Fisherman's Estate on Choa Fa East, called something like Specialist Foods (??). Closed some time ago. They had small and large pork pies (one with the egg inside) made by 'Yorkies'. I guess came from Oz and were frozen = pastry not so good on defrost.

Steak and kidney pie saturday and sunday special at the Islander restaurant in Patong. Excellent! :D

Agreed, but I always thought they had too much salt in them for my liking.

Always a good idea to ask for extra gravey as their diddy gravey boats don't hold much. :o

One time I had the roast at The Islander, the Yorkshire puds were empty shells - must have been in the warmer for hours - but I agree that generally great and good value (those steak and kidney pies are monsters). There is a fairly new place two doors down from the Yorkshire Inn in Sansabai that does a great roast (competing head to head with the Yorkshire) - worth a try.

Ummm.. so no-one has any suggestions about buying pork pies on the Island. Come on, must be someone in the know...

I thought you might have got an answe by now. I don't think this will help, but... If you go into the main bar soi in Patak Road Karon, there is an English restaurant/hotel about 3/4 of the way up on the left-hand side (just before you get to the soi on the right that leads to Angus O'Tools). They used to have pork pies, but I haven't been there for a while and every time I have passed the place, it has had zero customers, so I suspect it won't last long and probably the kitchen is no longer operating - but you can try, since it is just down the road from you.

Be careful you might offend out Muslim brothers by discussing "PORK".

Beach House on Nanai Road, Patong (near the Nanai entrance to Jungcylon). Does good home made Aussie meat pies !

My pork pie quest is not going well. The place suggested in Karon (Beefeaters Pub) closed about 2 years ago, the place on Nanai (Beach House) has no pork pies and only sells the usual range of meat pies, sausage rolls, & pasties.

I'll give Lady Pie a try, but over the years I've found that none of the Phuket bakeries can get the pastry or the filling just right, and they have all ended up ceasing pork pie production (not enough customers). :o

Opposite beach house theres a place called 'tradition' that does UK simple stuff.. They used to sell proper pork pies (expensive)..

Its now under different management / owners tho and the old owners used to bulk sell meats to restaurants and hotels etc so not sure if that was part of the trade / system.

Good luck in your continuing quest - sorry to lead you astray with Beefeaters, although I am fairly sure that the last time I was actually in there was within the past six months or so (and I am not surprised it closed). Looks like ordering them may be one of your last remaining options. http://www.holidayready4u.com/aussie-pies-c-32.html
