I have to take medicine daily, as I only have one kidney, so my local Kidney specialist at a hospital in Pattaya prescribed the drugs I should take.

This week I ran out of one of these drugs, so just needed a top up.

When I went to the hospital I got my medicine for six months which cost THB130, however I was astonished to see they had also charged me THB300 for Physician's evaluation and management services, THB100 for nursing charge and THB100 for other professional charges.

For the record I never saw a Physician, and apart from registering at recepition, all a nurse did was walk me 50 metres to the accounts desk.

It seems a rip off and although I tried to get these tablets from a pharmacy who did not stock them, why do hospitals try this on?

they try it on because they get away with it. Lot's of bill padding that's why clinics can be a better option. There must be a way to get repeat prescriptions at a hospital without the padding?

6 months supply for 130 baht......

You are lucky , I get charged 400 baht for Physician's evaluation ,

200 baht for nursing charge.

I have been paying on top of that 2,668 baht for one months supply of tablets ,

and I have just found exaxctly the same tablets in a large pharmacy for 850 baht for a months supply.

Talk about getting ripped off.

I pay about 1,000 baht a month (not 6 months) for my meds at a pharmacy, compared to back home $10 a month government subsidised.

In essence you are paying 105 baht per month for your meds, Jesus, that's a 10th of what I am paying, perhaps you don't realise the costs involved of running a hospital.

Sounds to me like we found a winner, that was misspelt on purpose.

This has been my experience pretty much every time I go see a doctor anywhere for any reason.  They try sell you a bunch of drugs you don't need at rip off prices. That's how they make a lot of their money I guess.

Best thing is to try turn the game around on them.  Try get a list of the drugs they want to sell you and then make some excuse like you need to get some money out of a cash machine or whatever then head straight to the nearest green cross pharmacy.  Usually it's just one or two drugs you need so just get those if you know which they are, otherwise you have to consult Dr. Google.
