Opposite.
Since the excess water is evacuated at this place, it is important not to put the sand back but on the contrary to maintain and consolidate this passage.

Yaba yaba yaba ! (not that Yaba)

I was always wondering, why those protesters who want to remove government, never try to keep accountable local administrations responsible for road repair, as corruption on local level is much more obvious.

It was the national gov. Junta that appointed Fredo Corleone to the Pattaya mayor's chair. It should be pretty obvious that the Greens get a piece of the action.

There's one area along Jomtien that smells like a septic tank when you drive by. They obviously had some sewer issues there. Not sure if this is the same area or if they have solved that problem.

I think that same area is where the waste water treatment plant discharges into the Gulf.

I am just shocked!  Absolutely shocked about this!  Who could believe that Thai construction could fail so quickly and badly?

I hope the airport runways are not made by the same contractors

I read somewhere that they were sinking.

They seem to have built directly on the sand in the bed of a torrent. ????

Who could imagine that it was going to rain so much in Pattaya and that it was going to wash away the sand? ????

On the bright side, they now have a waterfall tourist attraction.

Do farangs need to pay 400 bahts to see the waterfall?

It does seem strange that there is more water on Beach Road than in the ocean.

Living off Soi Khaotalo I see the rivers heading off downhill to wash away the sand.

Luckily my house is on high ground.

More concrete needed I guess.

I said to the wife we will be OK in Jomtiem it's Pattaya that floods.

I seem to remember having to wade into  immigration through a flooded street one time.

In other news, the country is ready to venture in space..

One Way?

Note how the drainage grating is normal, higher than the surrounding area!!!

Cover everywhere in cement this is the result

The storm drains there always had water gushing out of them after a rain. Flooding the street there.

That is some really black water. Terrible.

The water is black due to the material choking up the drainage lines, never been or likely to be clened out.

Water has a habit of running downhill to the lowest point... that's where a bl**dy great drain should be located to take it away somewhere it can't do any harm.

And on the way lots of larger drains so flooding can't take place.

As Big a drain as can be fitted. REGULARILY cleaned!!!

Reminds me of the scene in the movie Paint Your Wagon. The town has been undermined by villains collecting the last of the gold, collapses into the ground and everyone flees.

A video posted on the ASEAN NOW Facebook page showed the sidewalk collapsed under the weight of the excess flood water.

Any actual evidence of the sidewalk collapsing under the weight of the water?

What material is that? Hardly likely to be leaves these days.

And not a bit of Reo Bar in sight,i wonder why the concrete broke like that ...Duh!!

There are to be NO LOCAL elections in Pattaya this time around; presumably Prayuth is happy with the 'strong-arm mayor?

The answer is in the question.  They want to remove the government, not fix the things they complain about.

The same reason they light fires, throw explosives and Molotov's then complain about police violence.

Not the first time, many years ago the whole road collapsed for about 100 meter on Jomptien beachroad

That was at the far south end  near to  "Pu Ben" and "Loong Sawai" restaurants if I remember correctly.

They can learn from this !! (maybe)....a few large canals from the road to the ocean....too easy?

I am amazed no one mentioned global warming as the problem, guess will leave that to the experts

Dongtan beach is worst. I am so worried for the squirrels living there ! Please bring them food, they are starving !

This was being suggested on this very forum some 18 months or more ago, as the current pipework efforts were making Beach Rd look a mess. Nature even shows us where to put them.

Collapsed for the same reasons everything else around here collapses: They slap it down on loose substrate that is undermined /washed out by waves or flooding. Like the area around this structure in the newly completed  Naklua flood  control project going through the park. Or what's left of it with this bs parking structure construction.

Just as well that wasn't in Pattaya, as it might put a crimp in the "Riviera of Thailand" myth they've been promoting.

Couldn't make this stuff up.

That seemed the more likely explanation to me.

Government has figured out how to help those stranded in the flood waters.
