webfact
File photo: REUTERS/Juarawee Kittisilpa Thailand on Saturday (September 11) reported 15,191 new COVID-19 cases, 18,721 recoveries and 253 additional deaths over the past 24 hours. ● 18,721 recoveries ● 14,465 new infections ● 726 prison / prison infections Saturday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,368,144 with 14,173 deaths. (Total infections since April 1: 1,339,281) The news comes as the Ministry of Public Health has addressed concerns brought up by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administratio’s (CCSA) Adviser Dr. Udom Kachinthorn, who believes that there may be 6-7 million asymptomatic COVID-19 infected individuals yet to be discovered within the population. Director of the Department of Disease Control’s Office of Emergency Disease and Health Threats, Dr. Chawetsan Namwat acknowledged today that according to epidemiological estimations, Dr. Udom’s observation is possible but not a cause for concern. He elaborated that symptomatic sufferers of the virus are easier to detect but asymptomatic infections can still be contained if everyone practices preventative measures. The Ministry of Public Health is nevertheless screening for such cases and working to make Antigen Test Kits readily available to people entering restaurants and other public spaces. * NNT contributed to this story Discover Cigna’s range of health insurance solutions created for expats and local nationals living in Thailand - click to view -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-09-11 - Whatever you're going through, the Samaritans are here for you - Follow ASEAN NOW on LINE for breaking COVID-19 updates

The important point is that the hospitals are not overwhelmed there and so it looks like the vaccines are working, albeit since most were with Sinovac the spread and cases will still be more than they would have been if more effective vaccines were used. Interesting data from Malaysia just released on vaccine effectiveness for deaths in the wave they've been experiencing there and the vaccines used, its no surprise there are far more deaths occurring with those fully vaccinated with Sinovac than the other covid vaccines used. It should be noted that Pfizer was one of the first vaccines used there so its effects are showing signs of waning compared to AZ: Malaysia vaccine data https://covidnow.moh.gov.my/deaths/ https://github.com/MoH-Malaysia/covid19-public Edited September 11, 2021 by Bkk Brian 4

Another ostrich sticking his head in the sand after they open up and let it spread more throughout the population before ensuring all are vaccinated. Are these guys tha unintelligent or just in denial it could blow up in another big wave. Of course you only detect symptomatic patients when they present for help and treatment while the asymptomatic continue to spread the virus and turn some of those into symptomatic patients. I guess they feel the hospitals, hospitels and field community isolation centers can handle it all.

The responsible Government Thai prisons are interesting especially were delta is concerned, I would have thought that delta spread very rapidly through prison population over a matter of a couple of weeks, that would mean that everyone in prison has already been infected with covid weeks ago, only those added to the prison population recently would account for new cases if they hadn't already been infected or been vaccinated with an effective vaccine. So prison cases are one of the following IMO - New inmates added to the prison population that had not been vaccinated or previously infected - the above plus massive reinfections - very few of the above and it is total B S - a mixture of all the above Either way I think it is safe to assume that everyone in prison has been infected at least once It would be an interesting study
