Thailand on Thursday (September 23) reported 13,252 new COVID-19 cases, 13,829 recoveries and 131 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

◼︎ 13,829 recoveries

◼︎ 12,778 new infections

◼︎ 478 prison / prison infections

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,495,750

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,352,936

Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,524,613 with 15,884 deaths.

The news comes as the number of severe COVID-19 cases and those requiring ventilators has fallen in the past three weeks, but small clusters of infections have increased in upcountry provinces, as a result of social gatherings, such as funerals, parties and merit-making ceremonies.

Director of the Disease Control and Emergency Health Hazards Division Dr. Chawetsan Namwat, said Wednesday that, compared to September 1st, the number of lung infections dropped by almost 1,500 and the number of patients requiring ventilators has dropped by almost 300.

So the biggest question we have now is "Is this a slow climb back up". I say that with seeing the past few days numbers.  Of course again that's my view. Adding in the ATK tests shows we are still above the 15k case mark and then we are still averaging 100+ deaths a day.  Have we reached a valley already and because of the reduction in restrictions is this the result, or is this uptick based upon the numbers in the outer provinces climbing slowly.  I guess I will need to wait and see what the provincial numbers bring when and if they are released.  There has to be a new trend starting somewhere, or are there new clusters being found.  This is the new normal and what we need to learn to live with however at this point in the game.  Nothing except time will reduce numbers and then maybe not ever, much like the annual flu seasons from the past. So it appears that we will always have a Covid season. Lets wait to see what the long term studies show as far as the need for boosters.  The US FDA just today approved the Pfizer vaccine for a booster in those over 65 and with medical conditions which falls in line with the annual Flu vaccinations given as well.  Can we in the future look forward to having an annual Covid Booster, Flu vaccination and a Pneumococcal vaccination as well as our every 5 year tetanus, well only time will tell.  Headed out soon to take the GF to obtain her first vaccination.  Take care folks, stay safe and as always protect your families and loved ones by using your due diligence.

Looks like Phuket has settled into the everyday 200+ case category.  Wonder what the 9 testing groups will be finding.  Will be interested to see how this all plays out as I am sure the other potential Sandbox locations will be following as well.

Sadly, this pandemic's not going anywhere.  Not yet, at least.

So the big question is: Is this a downturn in the upturn or an upturn in the downturn?

The answer will turn up down the road. With more daily data.

we are now below 150 on the 7 day avg for the daily death number.  last time that number was below 150 was August 2nd.  the high was just above 250 so we've come a long way down (40% decline).  it would be great to see some sub 100 numbers coming in soon.  we will be dealing with this virus for quite some time but as long as the death numbers remain relatively low (say sub 50), hospitals have capacity, and people continue to get vaccines, we can start to have a semi normal life again.  i'm not ready to charge into a packed bar and spend 5 hours in there drinking beer, eating food and watching sports.  but i will be ready to enjoy food and beer at an  outdoor venue once the beer ban has ended.

Thailand to Receive Vaccine, Test Kits from Singapore

BANGKOK, Sept 23 (TNA) – Singapore will send 122,400 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by AstraZeneca and 200,000 antigen test kits to Thailand in a vaccine swap agreement.

Tanee Sangrat, director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s Information Department, said the cabinet resolved on Sept 21 to accept the 122,400 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from Singapore under a bilateral agreement on a COVID-19 vaccine swap to mutually support disease control efforts. Under the agreement, Thailand will return the vaccine to Singapore later.

Along with the vaccine delivery, Singapore will also donate 200,000 antigen rapid test kits and 500,000 nasopharyngeal swabs to Thailand. The vaccine and the medical supplies will arrive at Suvarnabhumi airport on Sept 25. (TNA)

Are they preparing for a future wave or just ensuring they have them when the time comes?.  Is there somewhere else who could benefit from them right now that they should have gone to? However, it is very nice and awesome that these were donated by a benevolent organization such as UNICEF who I have supported for decades.

The US wants to send us 1 million Pfizer doses but can’t because Thai government hasn’t done paperwork

The Thai government has yet to sign off on the necessary documentation to receive Pfizer donations from the United States, a meeting between a Thai politician and a US senator has revealed.

One wonders if they will be allowed to.  How many are vaccinated, with 3 weeks until the 15th one wonders how they will as the article states:

The province, in the meantime, will speed up the delivery of jabs to ensure 70 per cent of the population is inoculated to create herd immunity. Agencies will also implement measures related to public health, logistics, Covid-19 screen and community participation and will also make preparations for emergencies.

Wait if that's true then how did the other 1.5 million arrive from the US?, now I am confused.

Alcoholic beverages can be served in bars and restaurants in Koh Samui from October 1 under the “Samui Vaccine Green Zone” scheme, Surat Thani authorities announced on Thursday.

Well that certainly doesn't sound good but "paperwork" is a rather nebulous term. What paperwork?
