We try to be "green" without compromising our lifestyle. We generate a significant chunk of our domestic energy from solar and Madam uses a carbon-neutral (but not exactly air pollution friendly) hob powered by local charcoal, burned traditionally from sustainable timber (forestry thinnings) and delivered by a chap on a bicycle. She's instructed me that our next daily driver will be an EV. But Greta just pushes all my buttons for some reason! She's 18, so probably needs a boyfriend to dissipate some of that energy. I wish him well 1
Popular Post thedemon
So today the river level has reached a new high for this year though where I am it is only about 3-4cm higher than the 10th Oct when I posted these photos: However the high tide this morning is about 20cm lower than it was on the 10th Oct so obviously there is more water being released upstream. Of course a 1cm increase in the tide doesn't necessarily equate to a 1cm increase in the river level but where I am it seems to be pretty close to that. 2 weeks from now, on the 7th Nov the tide will be 40cm higher than it is today so if the downstream flow remains constant (or increases) we will be getting pretty close to 2011 river levels. As usual there is little reliable information coming from the government about what we can expect. Obviously they cant accurately predict future rainfall but they do know the volume being released from the Chao Phraya dam. There used to be a (Thai language) webpage which showed the current release from the dam but I can't find that anymore. Does anyone know if it still exists?

Popular Post Crossy
Looks like we have peaked and the dampness is now receding, next high is at midnight. Level I would describe as "nervous"! Garden is completely flooded although some of our creatures (the geese) are really happy. Meanwhile the chickens are ensconsed in my outside workshop.
Crossy
Meanwhile, step son is practicing to be an umpire at Wimbledon. He's actually using that chicken cage to catch pla-chon in the flood water. 1

Chooks have been flood proofed by putting sandbags in the bottom of their house so they have dry walking space. Once the flooding is over we're going to raise the floor level permanently. Crossy
Level today seems to have peaked and is on it's way down. Similar sort of height as yesterday.
Andrew Dwyer
Took a run out to Kong Khong Market Ayutthaya . While the water level doesn’t appear to have made it over the 3477 the houses and Wats on the Chao Phraya side are all flooded, up to about 1.2 metres in some places from what I can see. A definite increase since I last passed here about 2 weeks ago. The army are present giving assistance.

The sun shines quite brightly between rain cells. It only lasts until the next rain squall. It rained heavily about 30 minutes after I took the photo. The photo was taken yesterday at full tide in the early afternoon. You are right I should have included that information in my post. My apologies.

I'm assuming that the red part means "risky". EDIT The red sign says "Critical"!
Crossy
Today's peak level was a bit lower than yesterday's "Nervous". Let's hope it continues before the next high tides from 5th to 11th November.

Popular Post Crossy
Well after a week or so of nothing much happening level wise (apart from tidal effects) we have a max about 10cm lower today. Hopefully this will continue before we get the high tides next weekend. Garden is sodden, we have already started losing trees ????
Popular Post Crossy
Just passed local low, much lower than it's been for a goodly while, next local high will be at about 8PM. The Village Oracle Lady says that the level will continue to decrease until the end of the week. Sadly her crystal ball / tea leaves / tarot / amulet gets cloudy around the time of the peak tides next weekend. We shall have to wait and see.
Crossy
Here we are just past the local high this morning, 47cm below the "Worry" level. This bodes well for the big tides due over the weekend with the 4m peak high on Monday (high today is 3.2m at the coast).
Andrew Dwyer
Just had a drive on the Pa Mok/Suphanburi road and the rice fields look like the Great Lakes !! just the rooftops of many lean-to’s and the odd tree to distinguish that they are not actual lakes. A few houses stranded out there also, their driveway/roads nowhere to be seen and the brightly coloured flat bottom boats their only mode of transport. A few of the newly appointed U-turn underpasses ( to replace the central u-turns ) on highway 32 out of action around Ang Thong area , saw a Ford Ranger struggling to make a 3 point turn in front of a flooded u-turn despite the warning sign and barricade !!
Crossy
@Andrew Dwyer that doesn't sound great, are these areas denoted as "monkey cheeks"? One assumes (may be a bad idea) that as the river flow decreases from the north these areas will get pumped out without causing massive issues down stream. Hopefully , with lower river flow it won’t get any worse but it is such a vast area flooded its going to need zero rainfall for a week or so to help get the levels down. The infamous Ayutthaya/Suphanburi plain is clearly shown, some of these “ lakes “ disappear off into the distance .
