Chad3000
I should really make a will for my bank accounts here and in US for my wife. US also brokerage, 401k and safety boxes. I'm in Bangkok. Can anyone suggest a best and cheapest way to have this done? For US can I use legal zoom? Can I write something out when in states and have it notarized? Would this have the same affect? If my wife had a will would the disposal of her bank account go faster, more smoothly? How is that best handled? What is the cost for a will in Thai? I can write it, translate to Thai and have wife touch it up. Thanks Edited October 9, 2021 by Chad3000
topt
Normally recommended that you have 2 wills. One for your US assets and one for the Thai ones. Depending on how complicated it is will depend on whether you need the services of a lawyer to write them and/or execute them. If relatively simple no reason why you cannot do them your self but just make sure they are witnessed and signed correctly. There is a cheap/basic template available on here somewhere for the Thai version.

Is this will any good? I have no idea. I suppose it is better than having no will at all? Are there any other standard Thai wills sold in Thailand similar to what they sell in WH Smiths in the UK? I want a Thai Usufruct (Sidhi-kep-kin) as well, to give me the legal right to live in our house in case my wife dies before me. Is there a standard form for that as well? The latter certainly especially if straightforward bequests. Unless you know someone you will pay at least 5k for a Thai and English language will and no idea if it would be any "better". 1 hour ago, Chris.B said: I want a Thai Usufruct I had heard that the land department have a standard form so maybe ask there? I have one but it was done by Isann Lawyers many years ago. https://www.isaanlawyers.com/

I made the usufruct you wrote above but I improved it with the years. You better have a MOU combine to a usufruct. Lawyers can add clauses to a contract that will protect you more like keeping the title deed in your hands. I have seen so many problems since 2006. If you already have one and need an upgrade, we can do cheaper. If you need a Living Wiil, maybe 2,000 baht. There are 5 forms off Wills in Thailand. People can also do a holograph Will themselves but this is more possible to be contested. We do with 2 witnesses, I had a client who even registered it at amphur but that is rare and I would say unnecessary. Kind Regards, Sebastien.
