georgegeorgia
When i retire to Asia whether that be thailand phillipines or cambodia i will be looking at somewhere where there is privacy number 1 and then i guess peacefulness and then number 3 security aspects At the moment i live in a big city here in Australia and im laying here on my bed and i can see the whole apartment building opposite even their TV Shows they are watching and they can see me . I dont like that, along with the guy next door bouncing his ball against the wall Noise from traffic outside doesnt worry me but i dont like neighbours especially in a condo building playing loud music or banging their apartment doors slamming them I looked at a couple of condo and houses in pattaya last visit and i didnt like the privacy aspect ,i like a house with a backyard but not if your neighbours can see you from their back windows Tell me about your home ,is it private ,secure and peaceful? where in Asia are you ? and if you live on a farm do you feel safe at night knowing no one is around ? That maybe strange to say but i had a friend who lives in a rural setting say to me once he had to get dogs as he had people knocking on his doors at night saying they re car broke down and they need a phone ,obviously doesnt go on much nowadays with a mobile phones around but still i wouldnt feel safe being say in a rural area of the phillipines or thailand with no one nearby i probaly feel more safe in a large condo building i guess Edited October 10, 2021 by georgegeorgia 1
Popular Post 473geo
Sleep well on the 'edge' of the village, as someone posted in another thread no real valuables to steal ???? it's only 7:30pm and all I can hear faintly is my son's phone on Tv mode as I sit outside, no traffic, family homes in the vicinity maybe 40 meters away closing up for the evening, as I let my supper settle, browse the forum, ponder the days events and consider tomorrow. Never felt unsafe here in Thai countryside.
steven100
it's ok...... but all the bom bom I can see daily makes my eyes sore. And when they see me banging everything that moves when I get up in the morning its a bit annoying. the gang across the condo romps around naked all the time and I do the same. I gotta get some privacy ..... how can I get privacy ?

Popular Post simon43
I live in an old wooden house on the outskirts of Luang Prabang (north Laos). From the road, it looks like a dilapidated shack!, but it's much better inside ???? The house has standard bars on the windows, so no problems with theft from the house. But 6 months ago, some 'plonker' entered my garden after dark to steal anything that they could sell. The only thing of value (for them) was the hundreds of metres of copper wire stretched out across my garden as the antenna and grounding system for my amateur radio station. The thief made the almost-fatal mistake of trying to remove this wire while I was actually transmitting! They made a very hasty exit, no doubt with burnt fingers.... ???? My landlord wasn't happy with this (I was furious, since the thief had stripped out maybe 200 metres of wire before he got electrocuted..). The next day, my landlord paid to install a high fence and gate all around the property. I also installed night lights and CCTV in the garden, and placed a sign next to my amateur antenna in Lao language that says 'You steal this - you die!!'. No problems since the security was improved. I have generally found that if you look poor and mentally-disturbed, most potential thieves leave you alone....

Popular Post Moonlover
Someone opened a thread on here a couple of years ago. It asked 'have you got a safe yet?' My response was 'we haven't even got round to a front door lock yet!' We live in the centre of a village, which has very little passing traffic. The doors and windows are open all day, even when we're out, but we're surrounded by family so we never worry about security at all. The family wander in an out at will. We don't give out the 'rich falang family' look, because we're not, we're just an ordinary village family. We're surrounded by beautiful country so I can enjoy fresh air and sunshine during daily walks. Country folk sleep early so once nightfall comes the place is so quiet you can hear the proverbial pin drop. Oh and one for @georgegeorgia no barking dogs! ???? And the final bonus in these stressful times, there's been no Covid around here at all. I never bother wearing one of those awful masks! It wouldn't suit everyone of course, but for me it's just fine.

Popular Post sirineou
Bottom line to the OP If you are coming to Thailand for privacy, depending where you go, you will have plenty. If you are coming for Quiet . Good luck. Even if you find a place that is nice and quiet, who is to say that next month they will not open a motorcycle repair shop next door.

Not at all, as, I described, you will have a problem sure if you go with pre conceived thoughts. Occasionally yes but not tonight in fact can't remember the last barking interruption but does happen. I think given time in a village such as this chickens are grabbed by stray dogs which tends to see the problem addressed.
Popular Post Damrongsak
Our compound in Loei is close in, but fairly private as it borders a swamp. The soi was just a dirt road until recently. View from the porch is nice. HOWEVER, there is a big Wat a few hundred meters away. They occasionally have one of those all night parties and it's very noisy.

I take it you like Pattaya, personally I don't, it's too big for my liking, I like still like Phuket, but not into Patong, more out like Nai Harn or Kata and Karon, coastal and when and if I wanted to smell the sewer in Bangla through the grates on the ground, I would visit, but these days it's Hua Hin, which is more middle class and less scum tourists visiting and they have some really nice low rise condo buildings, shopping centres and hospitals close by. If you are from Sydney, not that I can recall, it's a little like Double Bay, or if Melbourne, Toorak, if you haven't been to Hua Hin, do yourself a favour next trip, go, there is a small bar area, probably 4 Soi's and more elsewhere, but just about obliviated now due to the Pandemic, if you want to feel safe and want privacy, I would recommend Hua Hin. We live in a big house in rural Thailand, no one across the road, no one behind us, no neighbour living next to us on one side (deceased estate) which we are looking at buying, some neighbours next to that property, and neighbours about 100 metres on the other side of us so it is very private for us and we enjoy being away from the Hussle and bustle, and if I get bored I can drive to the local town where there are a couple of expat bars, play some pool, have a couple of drinks, but no bargirls, so that's a disappointment, although if one really wants it, an hour up the road in the City you can find lots of bars with bargirls, pre Covid, been there, done that. I don't think you will be disappointed with Hua Hin, unless you like the bigger places like Pattaya. I recall my first visit there with my wife, dropped our bags into the hotel and went to get a bite to eat, long of the short saw this farang across the road almost fall on the road opposite us, I thought he got hit by a speeding motorbike, ends up the two guys on it, ripped his gold chain off of his neck, that must have hurt, turned to the wife and she was stripping off the chain, bracelet and ring and putting them in her jean pockets, so from that day forward, I knew the type of place it was. Seen a few things in Phuket as well, but not in Hua Hin, like I said, different breed of tourists and Thai's.

Doctor Tom
The sound of Thailand is the circular saw. Thais are never happier than making a noise for hours on end with various power tools, but the circular saw against metal is their favorite, you can't avoid the sound. 1
bbabythai
neighbours are a nightmare here. theres an old lady near our back yard area that burns charcoal everyday to cook.
