Thailand on Tuesday (October 19) reported 9,122 new COVID-19 cases, 10,731 recoveries and 71 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

▶︎ Total infections since April 1: 1,774,071

▶︎ Total recoveries since since April 1: 1,651,555

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 1,802,934 with 18,407 deaths.

The news comes as Thailand will stop using the COVID-19 vaccine of China's Sinovac when its current stock finishes, a senior official said on Monday, having used the shot extensively in combination with Western-developed vaccines.

Thailand used over 31.5 million Sinovac doses since February, starting with two doses to frontline workers, high-risk groups and residents of Phuket, a holiday island that reopened to tourists early in a pilot scheme.

In July, Thailand started inoculating people with Sinovac as a first dose followed by the Oxford University-developed AstraZeneca. Thailand was the first country to combine a Chinese and Western shots, a strategy its health officials said has proved effective.

Asean reported decreasing new Covid-19 cases on Monday

Thailand now has 30% of all reported cases across the Asean Bloc of nations, and the reorted Deaths are roughly the same as Vietnam but there are nearly 3 1/2 times as many reported infections in total.

Hmmm

With much fanfare it was touted and then when seen not to be working as they had hoped and with less efficacy they moved on to giving folks a different cocktail concoction of Sinovac then AZ, and then those with the double Sinovac jabs received a booster of Pfizer.  Yet they still kept ordering the Sinovac all the way up until last month, and then as of an OP yesterday have stopped purchasing it for use.  The issue is not the vaccine itself but the fact they went all in on it.

Numbers today looking better but then lasts see what tomorrow brings as far as these numbers possibly being from the weekend testing, and of course mass use of the ATK test kits.

Went out yesterday to do a bit of shopping and the roads were busy and Icon Siam packed once again.  Got our groceries we needed and headed back home to stay out of the hustle and bustle.

You must learn to stay out of these packed shopping centres!

Very odd when you compare Vietnam and Thailand.

Thailand with over 3 times as many total cases but almost exactly the same number of deaths.

Makes me wonder. Is Vietnam under-reporting cases? Is Thailand under-reporting deaths? Or do those magic amulets work after all?

In Phuket things much busier now also in parts, still a ghost town shuttered up in places like Karon I posted a video of it yesterday on another thread, the video is taken just a few days ago, well worth a watch but also pretty depressing and brings home to life the cost of this in real terms for so many businesses. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B86JRzJQhk8

However away from those more decimated area's people are tending to go out more especially with the easing of entry at the border there has been a large influx of Thai's returning. International Schools are all now open although on half term break for a week. Central shopping mall in Kathu is busy again.

You mentioned the Sinovac and as the OP says it was used a lot in Phuket. Its interesting to note that since the 1st July there have been 14,045 reported positive cases with 99 reported covid deaths giving a CFR or around 0.71%

I'm not sure what a fully vaxxed up population's CFR rate should be but that does sound a bit high to me, perhaps under reported cases?

More field hospitals set up, 22 more villages locked down in Pattani as COVID cases surge

22 more villages in the Sai Buri district of Thailand’s southern border province of Pattani have been locked down and more field hospitals set up to cope with the steady rise in COVID-19 infections.

The villages are located in 9 sub-districts where most of the COVID-19 cases are concentrated. Barricades have been erected at all entrances to and exits from the villages to prevent the unauthorized movement of people.

Stark reminder that while #Thailand is preparing for its (limited) “grand reopening” to (some) vaccinated tourists on Nov 1, that doesn’t mean that the #COVID19 situation has improved in every corner of the country.

Health Ministry confident in public health system, presses ahead with reopening

BANGKOK (NNT) - With just two weeks to go until the scheduled reopening of Thailand to foreign tourists from low-risk countries, the Ministry of Public Health has expressed confidence it would be able to put the Covid situation under control. Health authorities now say outbreaks will be dealt with locally via targeted area sealing, as opposed to a country-wide lockdown.

What would be nice is to see the number of available beds published as well as facilities that are still open to taking folks be it a field hospital or a hospitel.  This way the public could also be on board as seeing  that the health facilities are not already over loaded.

Thing's are looking much better and the weather is getting colder and we are getting rid of Sinovac. There must be a Heaven as hell is going somewhere else.

Its interesting to note that the number of ATK rapid tests has dropped dramatically over the last week or so.

The reduction just seemed to coincide with the huge spike in ATK tests reported on 10.10.

Strange, after the previous week showing a massive increase.

As I said before just after the Rural Doctor's Association came out with their statement. Also interestingly on Campbell's channel he's showing from Russian sources that's deaths there maybe/are well under reported. As I say very interesting. Had my 2nd AZ today. 12 wks after the 1st one not 3 wks as they're doing too make the vaccinated numbers look better and disregard the manufactures guidlines and people's health.
