We have just been quoted a price of 15000 Baht per dog for a blood test to say they don't have rabies.

This test is required for the documentation to take them into UK / Europe.

We already have the dogs fully vaccinated (including anti rabies jab) and plan to take them back with us as we are moving back to UK.

Anyone know if this is the standard price as it seems extortionate to me!

We have 2 small mix breed dogs that are 7 and 3 years old.

Interested to hear from anyone who has taken their own dogs out of Thailand back to Europe / UK and what their experiences were.

Thanks.

Hi

Suggest you contact a lab in UK. Not sure about rules in UK after BREXIT.

Used to bee that you have to send the test to EU and they will send back a rabies cert if pass.

Be aware that there is strict rules about micro chip in the animal before vaccination and how long after vaccination you can take the blood test.

Suggest you get help with export papers to be able to bring your pet out of Thailand.

Here you have a link to a reliable lab in UK tat will be accepted.

Taking dogs/cats to UK used to be a bit complicated, and I don't think it's any easier after BREXIT

Good luck

In the files section of Pet Parents Bangkok ♡ Pet Sitting Bangkok FB group there are instructions on how to DIY using BioBest. It's a lot cheaper, but you need to be confident that you'll get it right. The UK take the paperwork very seriously. Don't make comparisons with Europe. The rules for the UK are much stricter.

The timeline is microchip>rabies vaccine>(booster if needed)>wait 30 days - day of vax is day 0 not day 1> get blood taken>send off to lab> wait 3 months after blood was taken (not from lab test)

The date of the blood test and the results all have to go in the pet passport, and everything, including the vaccinations, must be signed AND stamped by the vet. They also need to be treated for tapeworm 1-5 days before the trip. Again, that needs to go in the passport.

The rabies titre certificate remains valid indefinitely if you always get the boosters done on time.

Also, they have to travel as cargo (not checked baggage or in the cabin), and that's not cheap. To avoid flying into the UK, people sometimes go to the Netherlands or France and then cross by car on the ferry or train instead.

Thank you so much for that info.

We plan to go to Ireland so will be able to not land in the UK.
