webfact
Many travellers have been heading to Thailand’s northern province of Chiang Mai, where four districts have reopened for tourism as this year’s cold season gets underway. Fog was seen this morning shrouding Chiang Mai’s Phra That Doi Kham Temple, which attracted many tourists who enjoyed a cool breeze while praying to the large Buddha image and took some light morning exercise. Many also went to Mon Cham, in Mae Rim district, known for its scenic views of nature and breezes throughout the year. Resorts in the area are also fully booked over weekends and holidays, as opposed to weekdays where resorts are at 50-60% capacity. itsari
Only outcome from this article's message is an increase of travel from the domestic sector into Chiang Mai which will increase the infection rate of covid 19 . However the economy is becoming desperate . One has to take a risk to earn money
Popular Post brommers
Nothing but government inspired puffery. Chiang Mai remains a Covid hotspot that is now unable to manage the outbreak. An American visitor who ate in my partner's restaurant & who booked a month here after a similar time in Phuket said that everywhere he goes is closed and he feels like he has been fed fake news and does not know how he can justify staying in CM more than a few days at most. This is going to be the pattern for any overseas visitor. 6

I hope they were double vaxxed, considering the provinces health service states it's at a critical point.. a couple of months ago that would have put it on the deep red list and vitually closed down.. Now it's open to all to come visit.
hotchilli
A spark of life with domestic tourism and a health care system in critical condition... sometimes the governments opening up plan seems to be backwards.
Gsxrnz
It begs the question - was it a spark of life or the splutter of a dying flame?

Before I moved there and lived in Bangkok, the locals would rave about Chiang Mai with it's cooler climate and clean air. Not sure that still is the attraction concerning the air ????. I do know that many of them head for places like Doi Inthanon when the temperature drops and there is hint of frost on the ground. My in-laws do it every year.

Which is really no surprise, since the first foreign flight is scheduled for Nov 5. Even then, they will be relatively few. Most people will arrive via BKK, do their SHA+ there, then continue to CM without being counted as part of the reopening.
