Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
PHUKET: The first direct commercial passenger flight from Russia since the tourism shutdown last year arrived in Phuket yesterday morning (Nov 6), bringing 277 tourists from Moscow. Aeroflot Russian Airlines Flight SU274 from Sheremetyevo International Airport landed at 8:50am. Waiting at Gate 11 to welcome the arrivals were Phuket Vice Governor Phichet Panaphong, Phuket International Airport General Manager Monchai Tanode along with a host of representatives from the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket office and other government agencies. Popular Post Gsxrnz
The departure city, the flight number, and the arrival gate are now forever recorded in the annals of Thai history. Not quite as significant as Armstrong walking on the moon, but in a nearly post-covid world I humbly suggest the arrival of a bunch of Eastern block tour guides without work permits is truly momentous.

Popular Post RafPinto
The Russians close schools, shops, restaurants.....but are allowed to travel to Thailand. Unbelievable. https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2021/11/06/coronavirus-in-russia-the-latest-news-nov-6-a69117 Nov. 6: What you need to know today Russia on Saturday confirmed 41,335 Covid-19 infections — the highest number of new infections since the beginning of the pandemic — and 1,188 deaths. Moscow's shops, schools and restaurants are shuttered until Nov. 7 in a bid to stop a surge in coronavirus infections and deaths that came after vaccination efforts stalled. Neither Moscow nor St. Petersburg will extend their non-working period past Nov. 7, the cities' authorities said. Russia's single-dose Sputnik Light vaccine produces a strong antibody response among recipients, according to research published Wednesday in leading medical journal The Lancet. Sputnik Light is the first dose of Russia's two-dose Sputnik V vaccine, which is the backbone of Russia's domestic vaccination campaign and is being sold around the world. Russian authorities said Monday that doctors were under "extraordinary" strain due to surging coronavirus cases in Europe's worst-hit country. The Novgorod region in northwestern Russia has become the first region to extend the non-working week. It will order all non-essential workers to take a mandated paid holiday for an additional week after Nov. 7. madmitch
Phuket would expect to receive 300,000 visitors throughout December, giving an average of 10,000 visitors a day, Mr Bhummikitti said. “The occupancy rate this month could gradually improve to 25-30% from 18-20% in October, before increasing to 35% in December,” he said. How many hotel rooms are there in Phuket? 300,000 travellers in a month, say averaging 10 days so that's 100,000 at any one time, also usually 2 to a room so I make that around 50,000 rooms at peak. That's nowhere near 30%, even if they do somehow hit 10,000 a day.

Gsxrnz
I look nothing like a Russian but years ago when every other tourist was from Russia I learned how to say "No! Foxtrot Oscar!" in the mother tongue. Niet! Otvali! Very useful when numerous young Russian blokes approached me while having a quiet smoke outside Central Festival putting two fingers towards their mouth and gutturally uttering (read shouting) "zigaretta". I'm sure my pronunciation is tragic but it got the job done.
