Linux Mint does not recognise Wifi card?

Linux Mint just wouldn't start again a few weeks ago on an old 12 year laptop I have - primarily used as web browsing terminal these days with large ext monitor attached. I assumed it was faulty old hardware as even older Linux Mints that used to work no longer worked. Then I installed latest Ubunto and everything has worked fine ever since. Even updates now to 22.04 version works without any issues. The system runs faster, internet speeds are better and the hardware CPU stays cooler with less fan noise. I am finished with Mint and now a devoted Ubunto user!

  • What model and chipset version for the wireless card is in your pc... Is it realtek, intel or broadcom? Maybe linux wifi drivers need to be updated.   USB adapters: b,g,n USB Wifi adapt

  • Try using the command line to see if the wifi can be detected and if so try enabling the wifi. from the command line.

  • You might try to replace the WiFi card with another one, preferrably made by Atheros or Intel. It will be more convenient than losing an USB port.   for example these models should work: AR5
