Let's assume 99% survival, to make the math easy. So, for a million cases (like the USA has every 10 days or so), that's 10,000 dead over those 10 days or so. 

 

That's the equivalent of 30 plane crashes every 10 days or so. 

 

Would you buy an airplane ticket if there were 30 plane crashes every 10 days? 

 

Yes, Covid is that bad, and yes, you need to get vaccinated.

Did your extrapolation  consider the possibility that the virus is more widely spread than is known  ie:  not 100 % of the population has been tested to see if they  had or have the virus.

 

When/if ever  they declare the pandemic over then the "real" figures can be calculated

until then its just "best guestimation"  and "questionable" computer modelling.

Incentives or other soft persuasions will not be enough to get the whole population vaccinated. As Ireland and Germany have shown that the pandemic will spike again as long as there are pockets of unvaccinated. To break the covid infection chain, we need 100% of the population vaccinated. Try disincentives to inconvenient the unvaccinated to be vaccinated or just mandate vaccination for the whole population like in Austria.

Your position is weakened by the fact that the virus evolves, so that people who were infected in 2020 have little defense against Delta.

 

So, testing everyone to see if they have ever been infected may be educational, but the results aren’t going to tell us that much about the future trajectory of the epidemic.

This brings us back to  with the virus or because of the virus..perhaps its better to wait for the figures for total excess mortality and compare them to previous years for a clearer picture.

 

Also some serious studies into the effects of lockdowns on health  physical ,mental and economic.

You are ignoring a basic fact of immunology, the R0 factor. The percent vaccinated is not as important as the R0 number. Get R0 below 1, and the epidemic goes away.

No need to wait on excess death figures for the previous 5 years, all here already. WHO currently estimates the true cost of covid lives lost to be 2 to 3 times more than official figures and the Economist at 17 million.
