Thai Airways International (THAI), has launched its catering website Puff&Pie, offering a food delivery service in a bid to seek revenue while undergoing business restructuring amid Covid-19 crisis.

“The development of the website is a step forward in digital transformation and to facilitate customers in the digital era,” the airline’s catering unit said in a press release on Friday.

The pandemic led to sweeping restrictions on air travel, pushing airlines across the world into financial misery as demand plunged. And Thailand’s national airline, Thai Airways, was no exception.

For the resources they will use (if there is proper comprehensive cost accounting) to sell their pastries the profit margin will be quite small and will have no impact on their massive debts.

Also, for this industry preventing theft of cash and raw materials and finished products is a nightmare, and to completely prevent/stop such theft costs a lot of money/resources. Just not worth it.

Are they serving airline food at the cafe ?

What's wrong with selling food? Many other airlines do it in these times, as well as selling merchandise, airplane parts to collectors, etc.

There's nothing wrong with selling food .... it's just that Thai Airways is so deep in financial debt and now trying every trick in the book to stay alive it's ironic that it thinks selling puff pastries is going to fix everything.

Told the wife, You can't keep that teaspoon.

Now look at the state of the airline.

That place in the picture looks nice, do you need to book a seat 6 months ahead othewise your puff will be 600 baht? And do they move the seats closer to the tables every 6 months to be able to push in more and more people like they do in their planes?

They could possibly be selling those Chinese Doughnuts and Custard at an Airline price.

Its possible to buy the same thing on virtually every Soi, with  a realistic price of about 25 Baht, and probably better quality to boot

They don't know how to run an Airline, so sell all the planes

and stick to selling pies, the losses will be a whole lot less.

The butterscotch cookies look good.

They need to be cheaper and tastier and available in more places than S&P.

But it will be free supply and delivery to the military and politicians to make up for their recent loss of free flights.

The one thing we don't need, at least here in Bangkok, is another food delivery service. It surely is a lucrative business to deliver food, but the more competitors, the harder it will be to make money, as they only can compete on the price.

Foodpanda recently increased their delivery prices and at the same time now combine deliveries, so that the last food order on the bike will be cold at the time of delivery. The last two McDonalds deliveries from Foodpanda I have received was cold and as cold french fries and burgers are not delicious, I filed a complaint. All they could offer me was a 20 Baht voucher, that can not be used in combination with any promotions.

actually as a joke your correct ..... stop this stupid nonsense of restructure because if any western appointed administrators seen their balance sheet and costs as well as debt they would laugh at the thought of any proper & professional restructure.  These guys are in way to deep and will drown any day now imo,  NO RESTRUCTURE is going to magically fix this mess that's for sure.

What's wrong is that it should have been put into bankruptcy and drown in the bathwater. It will never make a profit EVER.

EVER

If Thai airways would only introduce the menu below at their "Puff and Pie" shops here in Thailand I would certainly be a frequent customer. They managed to serve up a very decent breakfast from LHR to BKK a few weeks ago although it was made in the UK. Black pudding on a Thai airways flight who'd a thought it?

thai airways owes refunds to thousands of people yet they can just open a pie n' pastry shop   ??

to me this is bs .... but most here don't see what i see, To me the administrators are playing games.

absolutely nothing wrong with it, however, suggesting that this will in some way 'save' or even go any way to solving the huge financial difficulties the airline is in, is deluded. it's just a pr stunt.

Probably kick off anyone in First, most who have not paid for their tickets and are on junkets.
