BANGKOK (NNT) - The Prime Minister has instructed officials to step up their efforts to move electrical and communications lines underground.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha delivered the directive to the Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), asking it to beautify the landscape along several main roads in the country.

The move caught the attention of Russell Crowe, a Hollywood actor who developed an affection for the Kingdom when he was filming his new movie in Thailand. He retweeted the news of the Prime Minister’s order, welcoming the landscaping initiative.

He also tweeted that he missed Thailand, while offering a mini guide to various tourist spots, particularly restaurants, street markets, and food stalls.

Russell Crowe visited Thailand in October to film a Vietnam War-era movie called “The Greatest Beer Run Ever.” He shared complimentary pictures and messages about his experience during his stay in Phuket.

Next job will be to order the tide to stay out permanently making certain beaches easier to recover ????

When can we expect the order to clean up the drains, canals, rivers, national parks, etc.?

Stop with the Bill Gates Russell Crowe nonsense......

Sure the cables don't look great, but is this really a top priority?

I wonder the real reason is behind all of this?

In Picard "make it so" mode again.

Be a big handshake up a Wai Less LOS..

However if our esteemed leader ever got down and dirty with the praa he may have noted Krung Thep is built no so much angels as moist spongey lands one might almost say a swampy sewer but that's Int arrivals and bling Power.

A monumental challenge and one that would take decades and cost, possibly, billions. What's next, central gas! besides I like them.

Maybe Mr. Crowe would like to take a walk in the knee deep Pattaya floods after everything is buried underground

I recall the work being underataken on Sukhumvit wires all over the pavement , Sois blocked as well and men dangling off of uninsulated ladders

This guy is always instructing, criticizing, complaining, bemoaning, directing, ordering, or threatening.

Does anyone listen to him? He appears to be an exceptionally irrelevant and an undeniably failed man.

You missed demanding. I was wondering whether that was more or less than instructing. Instructing does however suggest some knowledge of the subject so I guess must be a journalistic typo.

The sign at this regional university reads Department of Electrical Engineering

Not Department of Landscape Architecture

Those orders are issued regularly and like most of them are immediately ignored, unless some money can be made from them!

He'd make a good wife for someone.

Big deal!   I ordered them to bury the lines years ago.   You think they listen?

Don't be absurd...we need more mega malls in Bangkok before any of that trivial stuff is taken care of

I think among his many, many, many "instructions", "directions" and "orders" over his term as self-appointed junta leader and pm include solving:

air/smog/smoke

Bangkok traffic

Flooding

COVID

Vaccines

Standing during the song

halting crossborder migration

Investigate glove snafu

Streamline Thailand Pass

He issues at least handful of orders each day.

and let's not forget "his" twelve values:

Prayut Chan-o-cha’s 12 values of education:

1. Loyalty to the Nation, the Religion, and the Monarchy.
2. Honesty, sacrifice, endurance, and noble ideology for the greater good.
3. Gratitude for parents, guardians, and teachers.
4. Diligence in acquiring knowledge, via school studies and other methods.
5. Preserving the Thai customs and tradition.
6. Morality and good will toward others.
7. Correct understanding of democracy with the King as Head of State.
8. Discipline, respect for law, and obedience to the older citizens.
9. Constant consciousness to practice good deeds all the time, as taught by His Majesty the King.
10. Practice of Self-Sufficient Economy in accordance with the teaching of His Majesty the King.
11. Physical and mental strength. Refusal to surrender to religious sins.
12. Uphold the interest of the nation over oneself.

You left out "With No Self-Esteem".

A very sensible idea would be an 'order' to stop building more Moo Baans of hundreds of houses with yet more overhead wires; surely to anyone with half a brain this would be beneficial in the long term, same with new Industrial Complex's.

They burried the street light cables in our soi, here is proof!!

Well he couldn't stop the rainfall/flooding so might as well try another tack.

I thought Bill Gates ordered this several years back?

Is that a tourist from the Middle East? (Second from the right on the beach)

As I see it. The actual "electricity" wires are mostly a few and up high, way overhead (as in the photo posted earlier by another OP above )

90 % of the tangled mess of black wires are telecom/Internet wires placed there by TOT and the like.

And they add to them almost daily.

How would these go underground ?

Seems every subscriber in our moo Baan has their own black wire...including us.

Gotta ask Russel to take a shot of that too

There isn't a month go by without someone damaging the water pipes. What chance have the cables?
