Cabinet approves one-year visa for foreigners seeking medical treatment in Thailand

The Thai cabinet approved, in principle, the issuance of medical treatment visas at their meeting today (Tuesday). The visa will allow foreigners seeking medical treatment in Thailand to stay for up to one year, without having to leave the country for visa renewals in the case of tourist visas.

Government deputy spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said that the decision is in line with the government’s policy to promote Thailand as an international medical hub.

To be eligible, each patient has to provide a bank statement with at least 800,000 baht for all the expenses in Thailand, and show proofs of a medical appointment that is made at least 30 days in advance, and an insurance that covers accidents, emergencies and COVID-19 worth no less than US$100,000.

Do they get a couple of strokes at the  first treatment or do they have to come back for a second dose?

And, ironically, I will have to go to Paris to get a PEA (Prostatic Artery Embolisation)...

Nope, but a few strokes too many will lead to a Cerebrovascular Accident.

Let's see which types of appointments they accept.

I need dental implants. Does the 800K need to be in a Thai bank or do I just show it in my US bank account. I know the dentist in Thailand and he has done my dental work but, the time limit has always stopped me. This may be just be what I am looking for. As long as I don't have to transfer 800K over for a one year stay in a  Thai Bank.

So basically a retirement visa with an added addition of a hospital appointment letter - what a farce.

If the 800K is in my bank in the US and the insurance is reasonable then good for me. What is a policy like the going for ?

I cannot see it being in a foreign bank account. If the did that they have no guarantee the money would come to thailand and second they may as well change all retirement extensions to 800k in a foreign bank. Be more cost effective and safer to have a hospital letter treating herpes once a year if you can keep it outside Thailand

I suspect cancer treatments, diabetes, arthritis, COPD..... maybe TB and others where a warmer climate are beneficial (although pollution here may negate that). I wonder how many countries outside the USA have far more expensive treatment than Thailand, which is not cheap  any more.

It's a visa, not an extension, so people get it before coming to Thailand, thus obviously in a foreign bank account.

Nope, for retirement visas one has ot be more than 50 years old. There is no age restrictions for medical visa.

will there be any treatment for those of us who are staying behind, despite all the hoops?

I think the clue is here :

Soon to happen... a deluge of "sick" foreigners coming to the Kingdom.

Genital ailments would be the main medical certificate presented for this visa category. For sure.

Alcohol Polydipsia (extreme thirst that cannot be quenched by drinking)

Maybe the one-year curse of spontaneous insanity that comes with the severe headaches of applying for any kind of visa these days?

Not a farce. But rather sheer panic. Expats are leaving in droves and tourists are not coming. Income is dropping, unemployment is rising, so are suicides. The economy is in the toilet. Desperation is setting in. The goons are grasping for straws after sabotaging a most vital industry.

awesome!

skip the marriage visa & get my ingrown toe nail fixed instead ????

Do you know many Expats leaving? I hear of a few giving up their business but not many leaving for good.

That's not the point, it gets some people in the country parting with daily expenses, 800,000 sitting in the bank  and not to mention a nice wedge for the hospital.

Anything will do.

other publications are tieing this visa to "wealthy foreigners"

which would mean 800K in the bank qualifies as wealthy and with "purchasing power"

hoo-rah! we're saved!!
