Get today's headlines by email As summer approaches, popular destinations like beaches can pose challenges for pet owners. Dr. Ignacio highlights that dogs swimming in the sea often ingest saltwater, leading to potential vomiting and diarrhea. She recommends keeping fresh water accessible for dogs at all times. Additionally, beach environments require flea and tick protection, and pet owners should be cautious of dogs ingesting sand. During Holy Week, many families travel to rural areas, introducing city dogs to new environments. Dr. Ignacio advises allowing dogs to adjust on a leash initially to help them adapt comfortably. In Baguio, where terrain can vary, checking dogs’ paw pads after walks is important to prevent irritation. The city also cools at night, so pets need warm sleeping arrangements, reported Philstar.
