Potentially infect the country?   People coming here have to be double vaccinated, PCR tested before they leave, PCR tested when they arrive and only then are they able to leave the quarantine hotel once the test is negative - if the test is positive they go to quarantine and then do not infect anyone.    I'm not really sure how much danger the country is in by continuing this.

Same reason that a number have already been detected after they left quarantine following a negative test under T&G. and have now managed to infect and spread it to others.

90,000 people who are still allowed to enter under T&G, including  travelling from Hotspots such as UK and USA,  and will be able to exploit the current loophole and leave the hotel after one night which has clearly been shown to result in missed cases being allowed to infect the community.

They seem caught between a rock and a hard place.

Pointless cancelling other events which will help bring revenue to Thai people if they are happy for holidaymakers to arrive under T&G which will spread it anyhow.

Either open up or shut, half way serves  no purpose.

You say open up or shut, half way serves no purpose. However the Phuket Sandbox?

So would you also want to close the Phuket Sandbox where they can also freely mix in the community daily?

I didn't realise that people who are double jabbed, tested before they leave their country, tested on arrival here have been testing positive (despite the 2 negative tests) and infecting people - I would have thought the odds of that happening are exceptionally low.    How many has this happened to and how can they be sure that the infection was not picked up locally in Thailand rather than brought in from overseas?

See Brian has posted this already.

With a virus infection rate doubling every 2 to 3 days.

Expect lockdowns within a few weeks.

With not even 70% of the Thai population double jabbed and only 7% with a booster, the Thai government will have to buy themselves some time.

For the "omicron" is milder, nothing to worry about posters.

Pattaya going their own route at the moment

Pattaya City officials have held a major meeting around New Year's Countdown after Bangkok canceled all their official events from the city (not private sector). As of now, the event WILL continue in #Pattaya as officials feel confident in disease control measures.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about regarding omicron. So far, it has proved to be extremely mild - basically no more than a bad cold, and according to official statistics in the UK, around 40% of people don't even know they have it until they are tested (using a test which is extremely inaccurate). Surely this is great news as it means that the "virus" is mutating into something that is basically harmless to most people, signalling the possible end to this pandemic. Funny how you never hear any of this on mainsteam media or from governments.

"The president of Germany's DIVI association for intensive care on Wednesday warned that there could be 6,000 people in intensive care by Christmas regardless of what measures are implemented.

The warning comes as Germany records its highest daily death toll since last winter. "

https://www.dw.com/en/germanys-icu-medics-expect-covid-surge-before-christmas/a-59985778

"The Omicron variant of coronavirus appears to be milder, with a 20%-25% reduced chance of a hospital visit and at least a 40% lower risk of being admitted overnight, the first UK data of its kind has showed.

But as daily Covid cases topped 100,000 for the first time on Wednesday, experts warned that high transmissibility means the NHS is still at risk of being overwhelmed. "

The omicron-driven surge is arriving at hospitals as they are still battling the delta variant and trying to manage the ongoing shortage of personnel.

As far as i know CCSA has the final word.

Pattaya City officials aren't in control, the CCSA are.

Bangkok police apparently where in Pattaya last night carrying out raids.

Know one bar owner who is shutting tonight to keep a low profile.

Vast majority of "bars" in Pattaya are operating illegally. Many expat bar owners still won't risk opening and breaking the law.

There is a report that 34 out of 100 current Omicron cases identified at that time are from T&G. That number may now well be higher. I have no idea how they can be sure but that is what they are reporting.

It may well have occurred at the Airports and/or during the flight and not picked up in the immediate 24hr test. According to other reports there is a good chance that infection can occur at airports and on the plane hence the WHO advice and why Thailand are switching to the 7 days period so these cases can be picked up in the future.

Unfortunately there will be those who arrive and/or return from holiday hotspots who are still able to use the loophole and slip through the net and with the doubling every couple of days you dont need many for a large cluster to form and potentially cause another lockdown.

There is no 7 day period of quarantine only 7 days in the same hotel, why do you keep ignoring that? People can still enter and be within the community after a few hours in Phuket.

Bars always operate illegally in pattaya because of outdate laws kept in place to allow tea money payments

Even the most conservative comentators in the west are beginning to smell the cofee and its damn mild with lots of aroma omicrom could be a week or 2 from freeing us to normality

Nothing is "proven" with Omicron

It has already claimed some deaths.

and you yourself start with "so far" - which is a bit of an oxymoron - given that no-one will be able to be definite in any degree until the week after Christmas.

From the vey beginning of the pandemic, Thailand's approaches been on a provincial level with overall guidance for the military.

Maybe the "omicron is milder" posters took their data from 25% jabbed South Africa who didn't see the need to panic.   If you want to put people off getting the jabs, then locking down the country after getting 70% jabbed when there is evidence that lockdowns are not required from a country with only 25% jabbed, then that would be one way to go about it.

Lockdowns should not be based on amateur hour modelling with such nonsense as cases doubling every 2-3 days when in every single circumstance the cases plateau and sharply drop regardless of whatever stupid one way system, curfew, alcohol ban or other daft restrictions are introduced to appease the most fearful members of society.

"But during cold and flu season, how can you be sure it’s a cold and not Covid-19?

The bottom line is – without a test, you can’t. Because while the typical symptoms of a cold are a headache, sore throat and runny nose, those are now some of the primary indicators of Covid too."

People are actually getting a runny nose with this variant!  Run for the hills!!

Deaths due to Omricon are now being reported in countries around the world. Here in Oz three deaths were reported yesterday. Additionally due to virulence it is expected more hospital beds will be required. Likely too soon to declare Omricon not much of a threat and pandemic end is just around the corner.

Instead of posting nonsense why don't you actually try and educate yourself.

Have a read of some scientific facts.

https://www.med.hku.hk/en/news/press/20211215-omicron-sars-cov-2-infection

No doubt you where saying that the original Wuhan covid was "just the cold or flu" when all this started 2 years ago.

2 years later, 5 million dead and many with long covid, we are still getting the same narrative.

What qualifications do you have to know better than the global scientific community?

Some up to date info regarding London/UK data of how hospitalisations are shaping up.

All countries/demographics are different but the UK is being watched globally to see how omicron plays out. No shortage of scientific data and statistics.

It’s good advice and common sense at this time but unfortunately Thailand has mistakenly left the door open for people to exploit and potentially infect the country with their grandfathering quarantine.

Let’s hope the health services don’t get overwhelmed with the inevitable incoming of Omicron as a result and worse case another extended lockdown.

Your being serious now, really?  For someone who wanted the opening of Thailand and High Season to be started in December when they reached the supposed 70% of vaccinations, which they are still far from that mark, and then when you touted they would meet the 100 million vaccinations by December you were wrong on that as well.  I guess when the goal posts get moved so many times it becomes a blur. Sure they are at over a 100 million jabs but that's when you count the Boosters in that they have had to give very soon after finding one vaccine was not working during Deltas climb upwards.  Not looking good for High Season, and many of us were not certain your predictions would come true, which they have not.  Health services being provided right now are at the lowest level they have been at in a long time, and the death rate which you have been one to post about has dropped.

However shutting the country now and saying that only those traveling into Thailand will bring in Omicron is dead wrong.

I actually think that this is what will cause Boris to lose the next election - not all the media nonsense about xmas parties - but the publics discontent with continually doing what they have been asked to do during covid, 3 jabs, 2 long lockdowns, mask wearing, etc only to be smack bang at the same place they were last year.

Problem is though the opposition would be just as hapless, as they voted for it too !

Wrong on everything. Guaranteed.

Only thing someone should be interested in is percentages.

Thailand just over 60% double jabbed.

7% with a booster.

Thats with 10 months to get to the 70% figure.

Fail on just about every metric since the pandemic began.

What's worse is the posters ramblings seem to be getting longer.

Good for you for battling through them.
