BANGKOK (NNT) - At a time when multiple categories of goods are experiencing price appreciation, the price of cooking gas will remain fixed at 318 baht per 15-kilogram cylinder under the end of March while the NGV price in Bangkok will be kept at 15 baht 59 satang per kilogram.

Energy Ministry Permanent Secretary Kulit Sombatsiri said volatility in the global energy scene has resulted in the price of cooking gas or LPG rising to 682 USD per tonne. This is comparable to an LPG retail price of 412 baht per 15-kilogram cylinder in Thailand. But with the spread of COVID-19 continuing to adversely impact people’s lives and the cost of living, the Energy Policy Administration Committee (EPAC) has resolved to keep the LPG price fixed at 318 baht per 15-kilogram cylinder until March 31.

Mr. Kulit said the Oil Fuel Fund Office will be asked to manage the Oil Fund in line with revisions to the LPG price, and PTT Plc. will be providing low-income earners who sell food or operate food stalls with a discount on the LPG price. Said discount will be accessible via the State Welfare Card until March 31.

The EPAC meeting also endorsed mitigating the effects of heightened prices of NGV or compressed natural gas for vehicles. PTT is being asked to fix the retail price of NGV at 15 baht 59 satang per kilogram. Taxi drivers in Greater Bangkok participating in an existing price discount program will be able to refill their tanks at a rate of 13 baht 62 satang until March 15.
