Anywhere in BKK where you can buy Migraleve (pink or yellow) have tried most chemists but they dont stock them. I used to get friends from the uk to bring me over a few packets because of this covid etc nobody coming over.

Can anyone recommend anything they use that can be bought locally, have tried a few different products but no good

After consulting a pharmacist, my wife got:

"Cebrium 5 mg", substance is Flunarizine HCl.

"Cardenol 10 mg", substance is Propranolol HCl.

Can't tell why the latter one is useful for migraine.

 

This migraleave stuff contains trivial paracetamol which you can get in kilogram amounts here. But I doubt it is effective against serious migraine?

Also confusing three different mixtures under one name (yellow, pink, ultra).

The stuff with codeine might be a problem in Thailand?

Migraleve is a combination of: buclizine (an antihistamine/antiemetic), codeine (8 mg) and paracetamol (520 mg)

 

Buclizine is not available in Thailand. Antihistamines with similar anti-nausea effect which are available here are: Promethazine (phenergan)  and Dimenhydrinate (Navamin, Pharmamin). A non-antihistamines which is  also helpful for the nausea of migraines and available here is: metoclopramide (Metoclopramide GPO, Met-sil, Plasil and other brands).

 

Codeine plus paracetemol, and codeine alone,  is available here but only from hospitals as all codeine preparations are controlled narcotics here. For which  reason, a permit from the Thai FDA Narcotics Division is required for someone to bring a medication containing it into the country.

 

Your options are to either:

 

1 - get a prescription for paracetemol + codeine , or codeine alone and then buy paracetemol, and supplement it, if necessary, with an over the counter antiemetic  such as metoclopramide. Note that most codeine prescription here will be at least 15 mg, almost double what was in 1 table of Migraleve

 

2- see a headache specialist and consider trying one of the newer  migraine specific drugs such as the various triptans and CGRPR antagonists. That is not a "do it yourself" undertaking so forget asking pharmacists. You might also want to consider botox injections if the headaches are frequent - much easier to obtain here than in the UK.

 

Are you certain these are migraines and not something else? (tension headache, cluster headache etc As it would be odd for just 8 mg of codeine + paracetemol to relieve an actual migraine.

Might very well be that you are allergic to monosodium glutamate.

The symptoms of MSG allergy are 'headaches'.

Very few people are allergic to MSG, but still it gave way to its bad reputation.

If you try avoiding MSG, even for just a few days, and your migraines disappear, then it might be a confirmation for you of such an allergy.

But difficult to avoid in Asia.

Some restaurants pride themselves of not using MSG in their cooking, and then they put one of these small bottles of sauce on tables, MAGGI.

Seems to affect women more than men, as I could gather...

I was treated for migraine and cluster headaches  with an anti epilepsy drug. The OP should consult a specialist. Mirgralieve looks weak to  me. There have been real  strides made in migraine research recently. Get real help..

I suffered with migraines for 6 years and tried everything including 15 Botox shots in my head (didn't work but boy I was beautiful for a couple of months) and eventually tried the only medication that prevented attacks really setting in which was Relpax 40mg. It's an eletriptan and an absolute saviour for me. Around 270baht for pack of 2.

I suffer with migraines from my teenage years I guess. However, I first wasn't diagnosed with it, and didn't now how to struggle with it. Now, I at least now what is it and try to prevent attacks.
