How To Get An Isbn For A Book

Featured Replies

Looking to get Thai ISBN's for a few of my publications that will be marketed here. How to go about it?

It is an international standard. Why should it be different in thailand?

Yes, that's what the "I" stands for- I would expect the ISBNs to be the same unless you're talking maybe about a different language edition. Thanks for the great link, Tywais!

yes, I think that's right - about ISBN's being internationally recognized. I meant to say 'bar codes.' I havent' yet checked the URL posted earlier in this thread, but I did find an email for an English speaking woman in Chiang Mai who told me over the phone, in effect: "We've (her company) issued bar codes for other official categorizations, but not yet for ISBN's." She said she'll check in to it and asked me to email her with my details. If anyone reading this is looking to get a bar code, you might try her: parinya [at] labelbankasia.com I haven't yet emailed her and I can't vouch for her veracity. Similarly, if anyone is interested in getting an ISBN for a publication (book / e-book / audio-book, etc) let me know - via my thaivisa post box.

The official agency in the States that issues ISBN (R.R.Bowker) also can issue corresponding bar codes for $25 each. For two reasons, I haven't gone that route: 1. I'm a bit of a cheapskate, and 2. I wasn't sure whether a bar code issued in the States would apply to items in Thai stores.
