12 Month Retirement Visa Renewal Dates

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I both non Thai held Retirement Visas for quite a number of years.

We found ourselves 'stranded' on the 'outside' and so they 'expired' late 2020.

We are now planning a return to Chiang Mai.

If we return now and try for Visas it is likely any 12 month renewal would fall outside our preferred date range which would be annually

between November and February.

Does anyone know if a 12 month Retirement Visa can be renewed 'early' of the expiration date.

So that we try for one now and then 'renew' to pick up that preferred date range.

Once you have the Visa, or an Extension thereof, most Immigration offices will allow you to apply for an Extension up to 30 days early.  Some will allow up to 45 days early. But they only issue 12 month Extensions.  They won't "custom cut' the length of the Extension based on your wishes.

Immigration will only issue a one year extension.

When do you plan on entering the country.

If you enter visa exempt you could apply for a non-o visa at immigration for a non-o visa that would allow a additional 90 days of stay. And the end of is when your extension would start. You could get also get a little more time by applying for a 30 day extension for the visa exempt entry.

You could also get tourist visas that would allow 60 day and then apply for 30 day extension and the non-o visas on the same day.

Hi Ubonjoe,

Thnxs reply.

Problem is we normally take a check out around  summer months as wife cannot take the temperatures as we get into April/May.

Last set of Visas were perfect - totally accidently - not planned - as renewal late Feb.

Well at least I know what is what - thought it might be like that - understandable.
