Daily News Thai Caption: Tricked out of 200 baht weight of gold

Police were called to the Sri Rungreuang gold shop in Nai Muang sub-district of Nong Khai in the north east of Thailand after the owner realised they had been conned out of 200 baht weight in gold jewelry worth 2.9 million baht.

A man dressed in black wearing a face mask had gone into the shop to say that he wanted to buy the gold for relatives and siblings.

As it was such a large sum of money he said the payment would be made by bank transfer to the shop's account.

The gold was gathered together and when the owner called the bank they were told that the money had been transferred and the man was allowed to leave with the gold.

However 15 minutes later when they checked again it was discovered that it was in fact just a clearing check and that there was no actual cash in the account.

Police contacted the bank and found out that the woman presenting the check was wanted for a previous fraud of a similar nature in Rayong in 2020.

Daily News did not print the name of the woman.

The man in the shop is thought to have given a false name and the shop did not check his ID, telephone number or even got a look at his face behind the mask.

Investigations continue.

oh dear

Will the shop's insurance pay out given the "errors" of the shop owner?

Now that's the way to do it.

No jumping over counters and scaring the sales girls.
