Nowadays, foreigners around 42 countries including American Citizen can travel to Thailand for 30 days by without a visa. They can only stay in Thailand for 30 days each time and the total must not be over than 90 days within 6 months from the first date of arrival. 

Questions:

1. Is that still true?
2. If so, is that just for people the visa exemption scheme or does that also apply to METV? Eg., can I stay in Thailand with a single- or multiple-entry tourist visa for 90 days, for outside for a few weeks, and come back with another single- or multiple-entry tourist visa?

1. That rule went away in 2008 when the issued a new order that limited visa exempt entries at land borders to 15 days and that order was replaced by new rule limiting land border entries to 2 per calendar years.

Just another case of Thai embassies and consulates have outdated info about visa exempt entries since they have nothing to do with them.

2. There is no written rule limiting the amount of time you can stay in the country with any type of visa over any period of time. The only limit is the permit to stay you get when you enter the country and what the allowed extensions of that entry allow.
