Thailand to open COVID-19 Acute Respiratory Infection clinics on March 1st

 

COVID-19 patients in Thailand, who are asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms, will be able to access medical services at Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) clinics, in addition to home and community isolation facilities, from March 1st, according to Public Health Permanent Secretary Dr.Kiattibhoom Vongrachit today (Saturday).

I have noticed many Lotus customers walking straight past the temperature monitors and hand wash dispensers. Our local store has three entrances and none have a member of staff overseeing the requirements. On two occasions I have handed the empty alcohol bottle to staff for a refill ....... how long was it empty ?

Temperature monitors are a great example! They are exactly like all of the Covid regulations. There is no proof they actually work for one. And also, take them away and Covid is going to do the same thing with or without them.

After three consecutive days of pandemic record highs, reported new COVID cases in Thailand declined to 24,719 on Sunday, not necessarily surprising for a weekend report, while COVID deaths and hospitalization numbers continued their upward trend.

 

Sunday's official new cases number was still higher than any tally reached last fall during Thailand's Delta COVID wave. New COVID deaths on Sunday rose to 42, the highest number reported thus far this year. And all key treatment and hospitalization numbers continued their upward trend, except for serious hospitalization cases declining by 10 to 955.

For some added context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's numbers of serious hospital cases and intubated patients topped 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

Brian, have we ever gotten any clarification of whether there's overlap/duplication between the daily PCR and ATK test numbers?  Meaning, individuals who start out with an ATK test, but then go on to also have a confirming PCR test, meaning they're really a single case, not two?

Nothing official from the authorities here but seeing as WHO Thailand also report the numbers in the same way as I compose the charts then I would assume they also feel the same, that the ATK's are in addition to the PCR's

If found to be infected, after taking a rapid antigen test, doctors will provide medications, such as Favipiravir, Fah Talai Jone Thai herbal medicine or others, depending on the symptoms exhibited, such as a fever, a cough or a runny nose. The scheme is expected to begin nationwide on March 1st.

 

A drug that has not shown to be effective in international studies and herbal remedies is all they offer. Favipiravir held back from marketing as a COVID therapy by Fujifilm which owns the copyright because the studies were unconvincing.  Thailand bought the pills from the Chinese licensee.  There are effective treatments from Merck, Pfizer et al but Thailand doesn't have any of them. So it just offers placebos.
