Avoid Investing In Thailand

Recommended Posts

It is now abundantly clear that Thailand has distinctly different moral, legal and political values than western countries. Western countries have been tricked to invest and help develop Thailand. Western businesses, governments and investment funds should withdraw existing investments and avoid further investment in Thailand, due to their "neutral" view of the Ukraine Russian war of 2022.

Thailand remains silent and "neutral" on the outrageous violation of international law by Russia, the immoral use of war weapons to slaughter Ukrainian civilians and Russian political lies to the UN general assembly.

How can Thai politicians sleep at night when another country is being destroyed and its people are slaughtered by Russia?

Every country look at their interest when it comes to foreign relations. Morality has not place in international transactions. What Thailand is doing it not annoying Russia/China as these two countries tourists were filling in the country. Also it want to avoid any kind of confrontation with CCP as it has seen that West has done nothing but make Ukraine a bait to get Russia for just sanctions. No one is fighting for Ukraine and only resolutions and condemnation would change nothing.

Tosh.  Historically Switzerland has been neutral, including through World War II.  The slaughter of millions of Jews and others by the Nazis wasn't enough to persuade the Swiss authorities to pick a side.  And yet Switzerland has long been considered a safe having for one's investments.  No need to assume that Thailand's current neutrality will affect foreign investment here.

If they weren't bothered by Myanmar (next door), why would you expect them to care about Russia (half the world away)?

Part of the ASEAN aggreement seems to avoid interfering in local regional 'internal' disputes, so as stated, why bother with the rest of the world's problems / issues.

Money comes here to be laundered, not invested.

It will be business as usual.

Is that what happens in all these "Indian tailor" shops......the ones that have never had a customer walk through their doors in decades?

"international law, morality and political position. This public revelation will make international funds, western companies consider avoiding further investment in Thailand"

People invest where they think there is profit to be made.  IMHO, there is no morality in investing, by most investors.  Defense stocks & funds is a perfect example of the most profitable investments, selling death world wide.  Very moral ????

Drug companies that raise the price of life saving meds 100-500-1000% for profits ... yea, very moral.

Stockholders, inversters care about 1 thing, profits.

There are lots of Thai companies in Myanmar, like PTT, big business investments. Thailand wants to avoid being cutoff from Myanmar oil and gas. Also the Thai military have ties to Myanmar military ( they collaborate and socialize together), so there would be resistance to anything militarily against Myanmar. It's all about money and profit from Myanmar.

Well there is rising trend in Western investment called ESG. ESG stands for Environmental Social and Governance, and refers to the three key factors when measuring the sustainability and ethical impact of an investment in a business or company. Most socially responsible investors check companies.

It's no longer all about profit at any cost, its also about how you operate getting that profit. This is why BP oil is selling its business in Russia, after building it for 30 years. Many other Western companies are also pulling out of Russia.

NASDAQ exchange says ESG investing is worth trillions of dollars, and increasing very quickly.

When we look at Thailand's ESG, the score is going down, especially in social and governance. Things like law 112, arrest of people for demonstrating against government issues, corruption, especially in government, allowing rich people avoid justice like Red Bull, high air pollution, human trafficking (estimated at U$12 billion a year), etc. etc. will make ESG investor elsewhere.

Would it help the Ukrainian people in any way if Thailand would condemn Russia?

Let's not forget: Countries have interests, not friends.

And that is not just Thailand. How many so called first world countries do business with dictators and tyrants? Many!

Well, not just countries but I guess individuals if they are bothered and feel so strongly about this can take their own action by not investing, and not buying condos, houses, cars, etc. in Thailand.  Too late though for many.

In the near future, Thailand will find itself on the wrong side of US, western companies and investment funds because of its lack of action in the Ukraine Russia war and Thailand continuing to operate companies (like PTT) in Myanmar providing the Junta funds for weapons to end democracy in Myanmar.

Many of the world’s best known brands — from Apple to Mercedes-Benz and BP are closing operations in Russia. No multinational, wants to be caught on the wrong side of U.S. and Western sanctions.

Read here all the companies closing down operations in Russia.

Slowly but surely, investment will directed away from Thailand because of their close association with tyrants of civilization.
