Crime Eighteen Chinese Nationals Arrested for Illegal Border Crossing
Picture courtesy of SiamNews Police in Chiang Rai have detained 18 Chinese nationals who allegedly entered Thailand illegally from Myanmar. Officers from Muang Chiang Rai Police Station received a report from staff at a local convenience store that a group of suspicious men had been loitering outside the premises for an extended period. When officers arrived, they found 18 men who were unable to communicate in Thai. A check for passports, visas and other identification documents revealed that none could produce any valid paperwork. Police later discovered that the group had been staying at a resort in Tha Sai subdistrict, Muang Chiang Rai. Initial questioning revealed that they had crossed into Thailand from Myanmar without passing through an official immigration checkpoint or authorised border crossing. The men were taken to the 191 Patrol Operations Centre at Muang Chiang Rai Police Station, where they were formally arrested, informed of the charges and their legal rights, and later handed over to investigators for prosecution under immigration law. Accident Speeding Pickup Truck Kills Burmese Couple in Samut Sakhon
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A speeding pickup truck struck and killed a Burmese husband and wife as they crossed a road to a local market in Samut Sakhon on the afternoon of 10 August, leaving both dead at the scene in a horrific crash that also injured four others. The crash occurred at around 16.30 on Krayai Road, near the entrance to Soi Boonserm, in Krathum Baen district. Police, medical staff from Krathum Baen Hospital and rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation attended the scene. The victims were identified as Mr So Nya Pho, 22, who was found lying in a pool of blood at the roadside and Ms Nan Sa Ne Ma, 22, whose body was discovered about six metres away. She had suffered catastrophic injuries, including decapitation, with her head found around 10 metres from her body. The white Isuzu pickup involved, registration from Bangkok, had crashed into an electricity pole and sustained front-end damage. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was injured and taken to hospital before police arrived. Three additional people from the same family, who had been planting trees outside their home, were injured when another parked Nissan was also struck and forced into them by the impact. Witnesses reported that the Isuzu was travelling at high speed when the driver lost control, hitting the Burmese couple before colliding with the parked Nissan. Police have impounded the Isuzu for inspection and will summon the driver for questioning once his condition allows. He is expected to face charges of reckless driving causing death and serious injury. -
