Someone recommended printing 3 copies of all your documents before flying to Thailand. I fail to understand why so many copies are needed. Isn’t one per document enough? Also, which documents need paper copies? Note: I will be arriving next month.

I will be using JAL. What documents do they check at the departure and transit (Narita) airports? Do they need to see your proof of insurance and hotel booking, even though those are already covered by the TP QR code? Anyone experience any problems at check-in or boarding? Does JAL do things differently?

I don't think 3 copies weigh much more than one or two. I bought three copies with me because I wasn't sure. Why don't you just do that. Japan may want some copies I transited in Singapore however. At my boarding in USA they asked me for four of the Thailand pass papers but gave copy back to me. I don't think anyone wants to touch or look at your phone for things you may have on there. You seem to be thinking of something so minor as a big deal. Have you been to Thailand yet?  It's land of copies.

In my two Sandbox and one Test & Go's, at no point were any of my papers kept. Each time I left the US with one set of hard copies and I still had them all when I arrived in my hotel in Phuket.

Same on my 3 x Test&Go entries. 1 copy of each document is enough and never was anything kept. As a back-up I made sure that all was accessible on my phone if needed.

1 Copy enough. Departure they want to see your ThaiPass. And before 1 April negative RT-PCR taken within 72 hours. They will ask you if you Transit only or will enter Japan.

If you transit in Narita from USA you do not need to show any documents or even pass security check at Narita Airport. If you travel from Bangkok to USA you have to go through security check in Japan. From 1 April also pre departure PCR test is NOT needed.

As others have said, one set is fine.

As to what is checked at departure, seems to vary, according to where you are coming from and perhaps also the agent. Often they want to see everything (because they are reading of the IATA list) , but they won't keep any of it. Others will be content with just the Thailand Pass.

Just have 1 hard copy of everything (and maybe backup copies on your phone of at least the Thailand Pass).

Someone well and truly over-eggs their pudding !!!

Having done this (ASQ / Sandbox / Test&Go) numerous times no documents are retained by anyone at any of the check-points from Airline check-in to Boarding, to MoPH arrival document checks and Immigration....

Thus: One set of documents is required thats all.

That said: I travel with back up kept separately just to avoid hassle if one of the documents becomes mislaid or is accidentally not returned at one of the ‘check-points’

Documents required that will be checked:

- Thailand Pass QR code

- Insurance Documentation

- PCR test (within 72hrs)

- Vaccine Certification

- Test&Go Booking

I have found that at various check-points a combination of some or all of the documents are checked, consistency varies - it seems the Airlines themselves are most scrutinous.

One is fine, having a backup copy just for peace of mind can be a good thing. Probably spend over an hour in Japan with a lady who kept wanting to find reasons I could be denied, so had to keep telling her she was looking at wrong program, and at end my 1st copy was not in the best of order, so reverted to 2nd copy for IMM in Bangkok.
