Around 30 fire engines from all over the area battled the blaze from 5 pm to 8pm. The sound of gas canisters could be heard popping intermittently. The media reported that flames spread quickly with goods evacuated from adjacent shops as fears of it spreading to other areas mounted. Some 7 people who were bedridden in the shops made it out safely.
