Japan will lift the entry ban for foreign nationals from 106 countries including Thailand, the Japanese government said this week, but tourism arrivals will still be on hold.

The government in Tokyo has relaxed entry restrictions and Covid-19 measures gradually for the past month. The country introduced a lockdown at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 and halted all travel by foreign nationals.

But according to a foreign ministry statement on Wednesday, the country will increase the cap of foreign arrivals from 7,000 per day to 10,000 per day starting this month.

Thailand did the same, but instead of a cap they left the BS in place.

If you read the article it says:

“In reality, there will be no change to who can enter Japan,” said a Justice Ministry official when asked to clarify the statement. “There won’t be anyone new who will be able to enter Japan as a result of this change.”

So, another very misleading headline.  The only change seems to be that Japan is allowing 3,000 more arrivals each day of select groups of people, which does not include tourists.

Japan despises foreigners at least as much as Thailand. However they are more polite about it........

As they should.  They are smart and not like western countries that import "refugees".  Such wonderful people who thrive in western countries!

Love Japan, would travel there again at a whim. But sadly, together with Monaco and a few other places, prices are too steep for me there.

Really ???....    Pre-pandemic we were regular visitors to Japan - I find it cheaper than London `and most of Europe.

Skiing there is cheaper than Europe and quiet (not as vast though).

Wow. It must be really expensive to ski in Europe. I was skiing at Lake Louise(Canada) a number of years ago and shared a lift with a young couple from Japan. They told me it was cheaper to fly to Canada,  pay for accommodations and lift tickets, than it was to ski in Japan.
