any good

Define "any good".

Inverter technology is obviously a good choice.

The question is what do you want? The cheapest price? Lots of features (i.e. control by mobile phone)? Best energy rating? Longest warranty?

Just a good reliable very quiet unit for bedroom

Have got a Econo 3 18000 btu evaporator in living room coupled to a Mr slim 18000 compressor and very happy with it. The matching long throw adjustable width Mr slim 18000 btu evaporator circuit burnt out and nobody up here could repair it so it got binned. Can you buy separate compressors and if so where.

Assuming it's big enough for your space it's likely no better or worse than the other big brand units.

We just installed a Sharp inverter in our bedroom to replace our 10 year old non-inverter Samsung which was leaking like a sieve.

It works well enough and the nergy consumption seems to be reduced.

Complex Subject. Simple Solution.

Just Get Cheapest ! With BEST Installer (Really Important) .

ALL Modern New Inverter AC Units appear to be of Sufficient Quality.

I am No Engineer / Inspector !

From local Daikin to imported Mitsubishi. Hear much urban legend stuff about this & that brand having defects (like LG). Assume that any truth on that has long since been rectified by Mfr. Improved Design.

I’ve had cheapest local Daikin throughout my house with heavy duty vacation rental use for years without any trouble, when regularly & expertly serviced / installed.

renovated downstairs apartment one year ago and went cheap with LG in large bedroom & luxury with Mitsubishi in Lounge. Homepro Supply. Proven Specialist Installer.

Kid Bedroom already had Sharp ( Homepro 17 k supply & install) which has been wonderful for four years. On all night too.

Thai Daikin Prices had risen it seems to match LG .

No Discernible Difference  in LG / Sharp / Mitsubishi Perfect Performance last 12 months. Same BTU. Same Approx. Area. Inverters. Very Quiet. Cool Temp. Responsive. Attractive. LG & Sharp gets heavy night use. Mitsubishi 50% higher priced than LG.  Inverter Material “ Superior” ? “Branding” Pricing. ?
Go Figure……

If Budget a real problem try those reconditioned AC shops but take your reliable installer along for “ buy in” factor !

Obviously that is a simple solution. But is it a good solution?

There are lots of differences.

Here are some of them:

https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/cooling/air-conditioners/review-and-compare/large-air-conditioners

This is an Australian website and some of the products are not available in Thailand and some aircons from Thailand are not in that list.

The important part, at least for me, is that there are significant differences.

On paper certainly. Just Not in my described actual outcome experience for simple residence needs. everybody overthinks AC here and don’t consider at all the vital installation aspects.

So it seems you think they are all the same energy efficient, quality built, etc., correct?

Really?

Obviously the installation has to be correct. But that is certainly not all there is.

I said same “ outcome”. Room cooling. AC can be endlessly complex. Do a Technical Bid Evaluation over ten pages. Read Technical Papers.

Energy Efficiency Study ? Entire four story house 320 m2 covered Electric Bill 3600 baht monthly. Might Save 600 baht by spending extra 4,000 Capital Cost.So What ? Who Cares ?

This is low value spend with common outcome. It Can Be Simple ..or Not.….

Our older Mitsubishi MrSlim was superb in cooling and reliability and reasonably low noise (compared to hotel AC units)

Our current Mitsubishi Move Eye (much more expensive than the MrSlim) is significantly quieter and has a setting where it’s so quiet it seems to be totally silent.

If you want white noise the Move Eye is not for you unless you set the fan on high.

the higher prices you pay are not just marketing fluff and extra features you won’t use.

Was the Mr. Slim of the inverter kind?

I see them being heavily promoted at very good prices.

Would you buy one again given a choice?

It wasn’t. Yes I would buy one for any room except the bedroom where the silence of the Move eye is worth the extra

That is where the Move Eye excels. It has a setting where it is not just very quiet but silent, in other rooms this isn’t that important as there is background noise but for the bedroom it’s an amazing difference.

By the time I get to the bedroom, I am ready for kip so any a/c noise, Mr Slim, is negligable.

Why have a Move Eye in a bedroom? How much do you move?

Mitsubishi fan also

Mitsubishi has a excellent reputation but shopping for them can be a bit tricky.  There are actually two Mitsubishi entities:  "Mitsubishi Heavy Industries"  (Tends to more commercially focused products) and "Mitsubishi Electric" ( more consumer oriented). In Thailand they overlap with different distributors in the home-owner market.  MHI products have a reputation for solid build-quality but pricier on a BTU by BTU basis.  ME units also have a good reputation but may focus more on marketing features.  The upside is you are more likely to get a better promotional deal in big box home improvement centers buying ME.   MHI usually is sold in AC shops.

Move Eye Is the model name of the range, it is also a function that you can engage to direct the fans to you or away wherever you are, however you can also use the conventional system though there are 3 vane direction controls.

I thought that the MrSlim was quiet enough until we got the Move Eye. Sure I can live with a noisy AC but my rest is better without it. YMMV

Can elaborate on this?

Do they sell different ranges (models)?

How does affect us as consumers if there's a commercial line of their products, oriented at the commercial side of the market?

Just think of them as separate companies that focus on a different market segment.  As I said before, MHI is aimed more at the commercial market: shops, offices, restaurants, etc. and sell via a dealer network thru AC providers.  Commercial AC focuses more on power and reliability.

ME is aimed at the residential market and is more visible in large electronics retailers such as Power Buy, Thai Watsadu and Home Mart.  The residential market pays more attention to ease of use, noise, economical operation and appearance.
