Irish Man Found Dead In His Pattaya Aparment

Featured Replies

A sixty-eight year old Irish man was found naked and dead in his room. He had planned to have beer with his friends.

On the 16 June 2007, at 1 AM, Pol.Maj. Phumiphat Namphudsa, Pattaya Investigator, was notified that a foreigner had died in room No. A 1, on the second floor, of No Name Apartments, located at 210/81, on the Soi behind Exite Entertainment, Moo 10, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi. The police and Sawang Boriboon Rescue rushed to investigate. At the scene of the incident, police found the body of a foreign man lying dead on the floor. He was not wearing any clothes. The deceased man was Mr. Slade (68), from Northern Ireland.

There were no signs of a struggle or foul play. His belongings were still in the room. Presumably he had been dead for six hours. There were 1,939 baht, cash, on his bedside table, as well as, some medicine which the police kept as evidence.

His friends told police that Mr. Slade, who was single, lived alone in his rented room. He had owned a restaurant on the soi, but sold the business to a friend. He used the proceeds of the sale of his restaurant to retire in Pattaya. Recently, he had been ill and did not come out to see his friends. He just rested in his room.

Mr. Slade made plans to go for some drinks at his friend's residence, but didn’t show up. His friend went to his room to investigate and found the room locked, with the light still on. He tried to call Mr. Slade, but he didn’t answer. His friend climbed in the room from the balcony and found Mr. Slade dead; and immediately called the police. Initially, police assumed that Mr. Slade was going to take a shower and, possibly, had a fatal heart attack. The police will send his body for an autopsy and inform Northern Ireland Embassy.
