Thailand on Tuesday (May 3) reported 9,721 new COVID-19 cases, 20,145 recoveries and 77 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 4,281,536 with 28,778 deaths.

The news comes as Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha was satisfied with the significant decrease in daily Covid-19 infections in Thailand, government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana revealed yesterday, May 2nd.

The spokesperson told the Associated Press that the Prime Minister saw the decrease as a good sign in controlling the domestic spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Thailand.**

One can only hope that the numbers reported are indeed truthful and show that the Omicron cases finally are really falling.  However, I am sure, after hearing anecdotal evidence, that many are treating their own Omicron cases at home and not reporting them as well as not seeking assistance.  If this is the trend and is to be believed then we can expect to hopefully see the end of the Emergency decree, the restrictions as well as regulations that are in force.  I would hope that folks would still be vigilant and if ill stay out of the public and isolated from family just as we all should have done in prior years having a cold or the flu.  I expect that an annual booster like those given for Pneumonia, or the Flu, or even every few years like Tetanus, and Hepatitis (if needed) will become the norm.

I've seen the same process round here. People who test positive on ATK quite often don't bother to go for a PCR, but just stay at home for a week; nobody seems to be getting ill.

One logical step they could take is to stop announcing daily case numbers as they are not anywhere the real case numbers, anyway. But I suppose the government thinks that will cause people to "drop their guard", whatever that is supposed to mean.
