Help on the way for twelve year old conned into buying iPhone on 20 baht a day repayment terms by teen

Siam Rath reported on the case of a 12 year old who was conned into buying an iPhone online.

 

She was told on a Facebook page that it would cost 20 baht a day in repayment terms. 

 

She didn't get the phone and had to part with 35,000 baht.

Now it has been revealed that a 16 year was behind the con in Bang Dung district of Udon Thani.

 

An aunt of the naughty teen said they would return the money and the relatives of the 12 year old would withdraw their police complaint.

20 bht a day repayments, ended up paying 35000 bht.....that is nearly 5 years of repayments.

I think there is a big something missing from the story.

Should return the money AND pay a hefty penalty in exchange for dropping the police complaint.

Let us hope the retrograde kid is at least taken out to the woodshed for a good beating. Unlikely, in this day and age of parenting. How else is he going to learn about morality?

My kid I'd want the money back and the kid prosecuted for fraud - either that or 10,000 baht compensation for the withdrawal to teach the family and the kid an expensive lesson

I believe the story.   maybe a down-payment, not 5-years.....anyhow.

 

It's crazy to me almost ALL Thais I met over the years worry about money.    100 baht in CASH means careful consideration.   

 

Many of these same people, who make 10,000 a month, buy phones for 40,000, apple watch for 20,000, and order on Shoppee to the tune of 10 billion a week.    all on credit cards.

 

as always, reminds me of  back home decades and decades ago.............debt in this country must be amazingly high.   

 

Thai government bonds, 20% coupon, coming soon.  lol
