China, Russia veto U.S. push for more U.N. sanctions on North Korea

China and Russia vetoed on Thursday (May 26) a U.S.-led push to impose more United Nations sanctions on North Korea over its renewed ballistic missile launches, publicly splitting the U.N. Security Council for the first time since it started punishing Pyongyang in 2006.

The remaining 13 council members all voted in favour of the U.S.-drafted resolution that proposed banning tobacco and oil exports to North Korea, whose leader Kim Jong Un is a chain smoker. It would also have blacklisted the Lazarus hacking group, which the United States says is tied to North Korea.

The vote came a day after North Korea fired three missiles, including one thought to be its largest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), following U.S. President Joe Biden’s trip to Asia. It was the latest in a string of ballistic missile launches this year, which are banned by the Security Council.

Well done China and Russia standing up to the US. The last thing the world needs is more sanctions. How about some dialogue?

Just what on earth is going on all around the world? It's gone from the most peaceful and prosperous times I can remember to a state of pure chaos. The US had quite decent relations with North Korea just a couple of years ago. It was a wonderful historic moment when the leaders met together and walked across the border into NK. An amazing achievement. The US and NK leaders had mutual respect and the ability to work together to maintain peace. Now NK are back to firing intercontinental ballistic missiles. This is a HUGE failure of the current US administration.

A US power vacuum is an incredibly dangerous thing. I have high hopes that with Musk's purchase of the digital town square and allowing free discussion(within limits of the law) that people will start to be better informed and make more educated decisions at the polling booth. It is all I can hope for, otherwise we are in deep trouble as a species.

China and Russia are correct here. Negotiations must take place, not just sanctions thrown around. As we see time and again, sanctions have no real effect other than to sour relations further. The Russians and Chinese will have to do the adults talking with NK at least until the US has competent leadership again. Good luck to them.

Really? ????????????????

"A viral video of world leaders huddled together and apparently joking about US President Donald Trump has not gone down well with the American leader, who called Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ‘two-faced’ and cancelled a scheduled press conference, which would result in him leaving the summit early as a result."

We could put it to a test? Have Biden walk up to the N. K. border and met Kim like Trump did. I am sure he will get a surprise.

Yes maybe if Trump gets re-elected he can establish ties with his buddy in North Korea.  If this happens who knows.  Then maybe you will be able to live in North Korea.  Just think of all that free medical care you could get.  And living in luxury on that small pension check. Plus other perks.  Yes better days are coming.

It was peaceful? tell that to the 6 countries who got bombed on a regular basis by the West, led by the USA.

Well, if appeasing a vicious dictator constitutes "a decent relationship" in your mind, so be it. But, as you may recall, all of the predictions and the characterizations of the negotiations with the North Koreans turned out to be fantasies. And you seem to be experiencing a very convenient memory loss in regards to how those negotiations ultimately played out:.

North Korea insults Trump as 'heedless and erratic old man' as tension rises

Pyongyang responds to tweets on denuclearization

North Korea insulted Donald Trump again on Monday, calling him a “heedless and erratic old man” after he tweeted that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un would not want to abandon a special relationship between the two leaders and affect the US presidential election by resuming hostile acts.

A senior North Korean official, former nuclear negotiator Kim Yong-chol, said in a statement his country would not cave in to US pressure because it has nothing to lose and accused the Trump administration of attempting to buy time ahead of an end-of-year deadline set by Kim for Washington to salvage nuclear talks.

North Korea says it sees little reason to maintain Kim-Trump ties

PUBLISHED THU, JUN 11 20208:55 PM ED

  • North Korea sees little use maintaining a personal relationship between leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump if Washington sticks to hostile policies, state media reported on Friday — the two-year anniversary of the leaders’ first summit.
  • Foreign Minister Ri Son Gwon said in retrospect the Trump administration appears to have been focusing on only scoring political points while seeking to isolate and suffocate North Korea, and threatening it with preemptive nuclear strikes and regime change.
  • On Thursday, a State Department spokesperson told South Korea’s Yonhap news agency the United States remains committed to dialogue with North Korea, and is open to a “flexible approach to reach a balanced agreement.”

Exactly why everything was so stable when he was in power. Pure alpha male, the others are totally cowed by him. Nobody dares to mess. Watching this I'm reminded of a pack of dogs when the alpha approaches, it's the same behaviour.

How far we have fallen in less than 2 years, and boy is the world paying a price for feeble weakness.

Trump  the alpha male with bone spurs! ????

He's the man and he will be back and there will be so many changes to make America great again.

The outcome from that would almost certainly be a fascist allegiance (axis) of the US, Russia, China, North Korea, Philippines, Turkey, Hungary, India, Syria, and Brazil.

Some might see that as a great outcome, others not so much. It would certainly spell the end of democracy world wide.

Sure. CNBC made this up and competitors like Fox just let it pass uncommented? How far removed from reality can someone be? Or how little intellectual decency might be a better question.

I guess the socialists at Fox News also made up the info in thia article dated Jun 12, 2020?

North Korea marks 2-year anniversary of Trump-Kim summit by vowing to build up military

“Never again will we provide the U.S. chief executive with another package to be used for (political) achievements without receiving any returns,” he added. “Nothing is more hypocritical than an empty promise.”

Ri claimed the past two years of diplomacy have only revealed that the U.S. continues to pursue “regime change” in Pyongyang and threatens the North with the prospects of a preemptive nuclear strike and “isolation and suffocation.”

https://www.foxnews.com/world/north-korea-trump-kim-summit-anniversary-weapons

Or  this article dated dec 19, 2019?

Trump a 'heedless and erratic old man,' North Korea says, after tweets about Kim Jong Un

North Korea took aim at President Trump on Monday, dubbing him a "heedless and erratic old man," after he tweeted leader Kim Jong Un wouldn't want to "void his special relationship" with him or the U.S. by interfering in the 2020 election by acting "in a hostile way."

The country won't cave to U.S. pressure because it has nothing to lose, Kim Yong Chol, a senior North Korean official and former nuclear negotiator, said in a statement. The North accused Trump of trying to buy time ahead of an end-of-year deadline set by Kim Jong Un for Washington to salvage nuclear talks.

The World would be such a more peaceful place without all those American warmongering interests among the Zionist-Americans. One in seven Americans lives of food stamps, one in eleven cannot find the USA on a world map, 5% of the World's population (the US) consumes 28% of the World's fossil fuel and they put their nose into each and any conflict anywhere on the planet to save the American people.

The scary bit is, that the Americans believe all this verbal manure from Washington and do not query burning 730+ billions (not millions) of USD yearly for "defense"; by interpretation that would be against the Canadians and Mexicans - no other borders. They forked 100+ million dollars towards Ukraine already; what on earth is this their business to start with.

I wonder what the Americans would do if Russia would have 500'000 soldiers along the Canadian/US border or 10'000 tanks along the Mexican/US border.

Pathetic but extremely profitable and the whole world watches.

Short; the US foreign policy is one big disaster since 1945 and sanctions and embargoes have only hit the underlings. Move the US troops out of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan and ........ North Korea will implode, as the Chinese will no longer feel threatened and pull the support plug on North Korea.

Complete B.S. there were not 500,000 US troops in Europe. On top of it, most of the troops located in Europe were not near a border with Russia.
