in saying that - can we have the total Thai government wearing masks because it makes me sick every time I look at them - I vote mask for gov - are there any super sized available that could completely cover their heads or better still - just one huge one that they can wear together at all times .......................... with a big "D" logo .............and the cumulative IQ of them all combined - pretty sure not a lot of ink required

We KNOW what planet from whence they always speak … the 7th one of course !

It is getting to the point to utter stupidity, and a total lack of common sense. The other day I was in an outdoor restaurant, and there was an entire table of people wearing masks. As soon as the foo

I don't why... to enrich themselves? Or just for the heck of it?

I’ll refer you to Hanlon’s razor and the Dunning Kruger effect which explains everything.

Population control. Economy be damned.

The reality is that Thais don't mind wearing masks. There is no particular opposition to doing so and so the government keeps the mandate because they know that masks do reduce infections and that reduces the burden on the public health system. In some countries like mine the government is afraid to lose votes and so rejects the expert medical advice which is to keep masks until the pandemic is gone.

It's best just to laugh at this lot really, if you don't there's a good chance you'll end up in a mental home.

The petty anger of foreign immigrants (sorry, I mean expats) here will annoy even Thais that don't like the current government.

First, understand that Thais are much more risk averse than the Australians, Americans and British. Read this https://www.hofstede-insights.com/fi/product/compare-countries/ to compare the difference and understand people here a bit more.

While reported cases have improved, believing reported cases is perhaps another matter.

Taking the p*ss out of the government about its efforts to prevent infection,  seems counterintuitive when you see the disasters created in the West.

Thais "Risk averse" ?! ????

Then explain the appalling Road death statistics, the associated low level of helmet wearing and the generally poor/reckless driving commonplace. For further evidence, the poor health and safety practices vs the countries you compare with. You are correlating unthinking mindless actions with considered practices. Why are many riding a scooter outdoors, fully masked but with no helmet? ???? ????

That diesel is orders of magnitude more likely to kill you by running into you than poison you ! ????

Hopefully, Anutin will be on here tomorrow as per usual to reverse the decision!

When one sees the difference in the death rates from Covid in Britain (178,000) and Thailand (30,000) - two countries with similar populations - I can't help thinking that Thailand has been immeasurably more successful at managing the pandemic while I accept that in both countries figures have been massaged to  a certain degree. And Britain had the supreme advantage of being an island but there were no efforts at any form of sanitary controls at ports and airports until well into the pandemic. Thailand is wise to take these relatively mild precautions.

Again another one who wants to push their own views, beliefs, and agendas on another country where they have their own mandates and regulations in regards to wearing masks.  It is no big deal to wear a mask as needed, takes no time to put one on and then dispose of it when you return to your domicile.

It’s called "constructive criticism " and far more preferable to blind acceptance, especially viewed in context of a non democratic institution imposing them. I was much in favour of mask wearing when it may have been helpful especially in the pre vaccination era. It has now become seen as largely unnecessary in current circumstances and you are forgetting the negative aspects, particularly the vital social aspect of communication by seeing the face of with whom you are communicating.
You may want to examine the hypocrisy of your accusation of another "pushing their own views" when that’s exactly what you are doing by suggesting someone else shouldn’t offer constructive criticism and just accept blind acquiescence.

The 'temp check' is another example of pure conditioning. Last week I watched a group of eight masked up Thais in their 20s religiously queue up to do the temp check to "enter" W District in Phrakhanong ... which is all open air, and so which has no defined 'entrance'. They queued to 'get in' past the (unoccupied) guard's table next to the temp scanner, despite there being 20 yards of open frontage right next to it.

@BKKBike09 and most countries pretty much give up the temp check a year ago, its now known that it isnt even a common symptom.

and I've seen it go off in a 7-11 when a thai has done it and they have just carried on into the shop anyway and the staff haven't stopped them because they probably think its malfunctioning. so what is the actual point of having them?  if they are just gonna ignore them if they go off anyway. madness

I love Thailand but I wouldn't go back unless they manage to get over Covid mania.

If you live in Thailand, or you have some kind of investment, the calculation is different.

I wonder if Asia in general is a write off for relaxed holidays. Perhaps there is something neurotic in the culture which got triggered by the hysteria?

The new motto. "Come visit the land of cowards, where there are masks as far as the eye can see". Even outdoors. Even on motorbikes! Masks, and more masks everywhere. A recipe for a great vacation. Masks and reduced nightlife. Come and have some fun! Thailand is unique. We are one of the few nations left that asks you to wear a mask everywhere you go. And though we already said masks would be scrapped in two weeks, we had a one day spike, and since we are neither courageous nor do we practice common sense, we will keep wearing them for a year or more. Even outdoors. Even on the beach.

Hopefully, we will see alot of civil disobedience. I for one, will not be wearing a mask for much longer. This is getting ridiculous. Defiance is needed now, more than ever! Let us embrace science and common sense. Masks disappear and so does the emergency decree. Kudos to the foreign tourists for ignoring this inane stupidity. Show the locals what intelligence and free thinking looks like. Defy stupidity.

Face mask outdoor ? Does it really mean it is mandatory in streets and in shops and venues as well ? I can't believe it. Notsure it's worth to come back in november as I planned, if they don't scrap it!

This comes as the economic recovery is showing signs of slowing again in 2022 while the foreign tourism industry is making a slower than expected comeback

"Expected" by whom? I have seen few comments in here favoring the outlook re: governmental intransigence with their anti-tourism decrees.

Likely, that is what millions of potential tourists are thinking too. Why vacation in a country that is pathologically obsessed with masks? And not for cosplay either. Masks can be fun when used in a costume. When used to fulfill the whim of toxic leaders, desperate to cling to power, it is not fun on any level.

So here is the first of the day quote "If it offends you so much to do as asked, you are free to return to whence you came from". We criticize this government daily for their missteps and since when do you need to see the face of the person your talking too. Until smart cell phones were introduced you conducted business by talking to someone on the telephone and never saw there face, so try again.  Masks are still viable for many situations......

No one is saying you must blindly acquiesce what has been stated is to follow the mandate this country has made and requested, you are very dispirit in your comments and at the same time have been degrading in your statements regarding the Thai people and their lifestyle.  Ignore is now on.

"Front line workers" I could understand, and maybe approve of.

I was wondering at the proposed "those at risk". I am, and will continue to wear one in public, but how did they plan on impleimenting that provision in law? Ah!  All farang are "at risk!"

Problem solved, Herr Anutin.????

By example
