Thousands crossing to Koh Kood and Koh Chang for long weekend - 2 km tailbacks at Laem Ngop

Siam Rath reported from two ports on the Trat mainland as thousands of tourists prepared to cross to Koh Kood and Koh Chang yesterday - the first day of HM Queen's long weekend holiday. 

 

At Laew Sok nearly a thousand tourists were boarding the Bunsiri Koh Kood Express, Koh Kood Princess and speedboats.

 

Koh Kood official Dechathorn Jan-ob said that tourism to the island has increased greatly this year as the pandemic subsided.

Tens of thousands of visitors had crossed especially at weekends and long weekends and during celebrations like Chinese New Year, Songkran and the Labor Day weekend. 

 

100s of millions of baht was going into the economy despite it still being low season. 

 

Meanwhile the same media reported 2 kilometer tailbacks of cars at Laem Ngop for the Koh Chang Ferry with 5,000 expected to cross to the main island.

Does not look like fun, most of the weekend spent in the car?

I never have and never will understand the concept of a bank holiday where a whole nation tries to travel all on the same day......it is just mental.

 

Give people these extra days to spend whenever they want......maybe within a specific month for instance, so these days retain the 'special wonder' of it being a bank holiday.

No bank story here only national holiday for queens birthday

 

We make the product for many euro company and all our customer have the fixed main holiday and short holiday for production worker

 

Impossible to operate good production or service for customer if always having  problem and argument with flex holiday time

 

Only way for happy people and happy production is the fixed holiday

 

Only the few people in factory can take flex holiday

Odd.............  in the UK and EU all employees have plenty of flexibility as to when to go on holiday for a large proportion of the days made available to them.....often 30 days+ a year.....and  businesses cope.

I have at the office list for some big uk customer with factory line production

 

all have year fixed shutdown

 

all have what is call statutory many fixed holiday time

 

not sure what the statutory is meaning but many are fixed for all production work

True.....many small to medium sized manufacturers do have periodical (statutory) shut downs to limit workers absences and to allow large scale maintenance. 

 

Many industries actually require you in work during nationwide holidays....horses for courses.....but my argument still stands.....it is mental closing a nation down on specific days and have millions all travelling at the same time.

Give any travel plans the swerve on a Thai national holiday. It's like a "Lemming Festival", all heading to the same destinations at the same time. Apart from the unavoidable Songkran and New Year holidays, I give our staff flexible holiday time over the calendar year, which gives them more quality time to travel, visit family, etc. and is more appreciated.

Absolutley agree....1000%.....national holidays are just mental......
