MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has opened passport appointment slots for June to September, a ranking official announced.

"Following the order of SFA (Teodoro Locsin Jr.) to ease the passport backlog, we’ve opened more appointment slots in all our 36 consular offices and 20 TOPS (temporary off-site passport service) sites nationwide," Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Brigido Dulay said in a tweet on Friday.

"There are now available slots this June all to way to Sept 2022. No need to wait," he added.

As of this posting, the DFA has yet to provide details about the number of slots that will be opened in a day.

The DFA earlier assured that measures are being taken to provide better consular services to the public, including adding temporary off-site passport service centers and hunting fixers selling already scarce appointment slots online.

Previously, it filed complaints against two recruitment agencies, Canferz Payment and Ticketing Center and Valesco-SMS Inc., for illegally distributing and profiting from the sale of passport appointment slots intended only for overseas Filipino workers through social media.

Passport appointment slots are free of charge and may be accessed through https://www.passport.gov.ph/appointment. (PNA)
