Thailand's leading Covid-19 spokesman presented an upbeat stance after the latest numbers were issued.

Dr Opas Kankawinpong, director of the Department of Disease Control, said that Covid infections were going down and health services were fully able to cope.

He expected other diseases to now be fully treated at hospitals, reported Siam Rath.

He said there was no sign at all of increased infections following the June 1st reopening of the entertainment sector in Thailand.

Though he cautioned that it would be one or two weeks before that could be confirmed.

There have been indications that the Thai authorities would consider further easing of restrictions in the coming weeks if the numbers support the move, notes ASEAN NOW.

That may include allowing bars and clubs to open beyond the 12 pm ceiling possibly to 2 am.

Dr Opas said that there are currently 20-30 deaths daily from Covid and the over 60s and those with seven other diseases remain the people most at risk.

There is no infection increase but we will monitor it till next Sonkran where we believe it will spread like wildfire. So keep up the masks and keep down the voice.

Just took a test today as I was beginning to feel ill last evening.  We had been to Khao San Rd on Friday night, and then spent the day Saturday at the Wat in Bang Phli.  SO many folks coughing and hacking, and yes we wore masks.  My test today was negative, and so I took some allergy meds, and within an hour am feeling less congested.  We shall see tomorrow.

The health clique holds very strongly to their importance and the associated budgets. They don't want to leave the stage in the media spotlight so quickly. For more than 2 years, the virologists have determined how people live together. Now the danger of the virus seems to be fading faster than those health rulers.
