Naew Na reported that local dignitaries in Yala in southern Thailand received the Swiss ambassador to open a "Swiss Corner" in a learning park.

Yala major Pongsak Yingchoncharoen explained that in November 2020 the Swiss ambassador had visited a learning park under construction. It was designed to promote learning among children youth and members of the public in general.

The ambassador thought it would be a great idea to have a "Swiss Corner" in the park to promote international understanding and knowledge especially as the two countries were celebrating 90 years of cordial relations.

Deputy governor Theerut Suphawiboonphol received ambassador Mrs Helene Budliger Artieda yesterday for the cutting of the ribbon.

Mrs Artieda said she had been received by Khun Pongsak a couple of years ago and was impressed by the plans for the TK Park and was pleased to say there would now be a little bit of Switzerland in Yala.

That's a good idea:

"Most western countries have representative systems. Switzerland is a rare example of a country with instruments of direct democracy (at the levels of the municipalities, cantons, and federal state). Citizens have more power than in a representative democracy. On any political level citizens can propose changes to the constitution (popular initiative), or ask for an optional referendum to be held on any law voted by the federal, cantonal parliament and/or municipal legislative body."
