KrungThai Bank ATM access

Recommended Posts

It appears that non-Thais are being locked out of using KrungThai Bank ATMs. Their machines now have a large sticker showing a Thai ID card being inserted, and when my wife tried to use my Bangkok Bank card in it today (no Bangkok Bank ATM available) she received a message saying the card could not be used on that machine. That was not the case a few days ago.

Has anyone else experienced this? And wasn't/isn't there a similar problem with non-Thais not being able to pay bills at 7-11 and other places because a Thai ID number is needed?

No.

Just coming back from town.

Used a KTB ATM with the "ID Confirm" sticker with my Bangkok Bank card (Mastercard Debit).

Usual procedure on touchscreen.

Got spit out 20k and new balance on my Bangkok Bank account displayed.

And that's about all I can do on this foreign ATM.

I tried to understand what is written in Thai language about this ID Confirm.

Didn't really get it but obviously not relevant for the average expat (50/50 Health Scheme? Some Wallet function?).

Did you try at other banks (Krungsri, KBank, SCB, ....)?

Does it show the Mastercard logo?

I have the same card as you and it worked at a Bangkok Bank machine spouse used later in the day. As your card worked for you at KrungThai it's possible that the one we tried which said our card couldn't be used might have had a problem that was unconnected with the Confirm ID thing. Maybe, but it's quite a coincidence.

I'll get herself to check what the sticker actually says, and we'll use the card next time in an ATM other than Bangkok Bank. She could ask in a KrungThai branch what's going on too I guess, when she's passing one.

Also, strange that the sticker says Confirm ID in English relating to Thai ID, isn't it. What's all that about ????
