webfact
file photo It is now possible to cultivate and have marijuana in your possession - but the country still has some of the world's toughest drug laws. This is what tourists should know before visiting the country. By Dave Owen Tourists visiting Thailand have had to be extremely careful not to fall foul of its rules on cannabis and other drugs. Possession of even small quantities of marijuana can result in long prison sentences, with many Britons among those sent to jail. Things are now changing, with the country's authorities deciding to legalise the cultivation and possession of the recreational drug, which also has medical uses. Visitors from the UK, however, are being reminded that Thailand still has some of the toughest drug laws in the world. A total of 184,416 Brits travelled to Thailand in 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic struck, according to the Visit Britain tourism website. They contributed a massive £278.87million towards the country's economy, which has experienced a tourism boom in recent decades. The country's public health minister has declared they would be handing out one million marijuana seedlings earlier this month. The drug has also gone on sale at cafés in the capital Bangkok. However, Thai authorities have warned visitors that Thailand will not be turning into a weed wonderland. Popular Post internationalism
he is writing about the past. For a week now ganja can be bought on Khaosan Rd stalls and across country. The very PM has put forward koh phangan full moon parties being allowed to smoke on the beach. Most likely there would be some other touristy islands following koh phangan example. Liberalisation of ganja has nothing to do with legality of any other drugs. As to travel statistics - there were far more brits coming to thailand pre-covid. Popular Post Bert got kinky
Could we please have some indication on when statements concerning the current Cannabis situation were made. If the statement was over 30 minutes ago, it is now irrelevant, as a new statement has already superseded it. Nothing to do with thai laws and with what is happening now. That journalist should apologise and make corrections. Thousands of ganja users were released from jail just recently. Practically anybody can grow and use it. Many were doing so despite being illegal. Edited June 17, 2022 by internationalism 5

ikke1959
Wait a minute.. we legalize cannabis, thane we put and age limit to it, than we forbid tourists to bring it/or maybe use it, but when there is a full moon party you use as much as you want, and grow at home if you have permission without any check ever....and surely it is forbidden in schools. But we freed already inmates who were punished for it So confusing..... Would it not be better to scap the legalization and do a proper investigation, than a good education for the people and than legalize it??? Or just as in the Netherlands.. Go to a coffeeshop who has a license .........

Dumbfounded
Are they implying that tourists are not permitted to have weed and the lifting of restrictions for its use only applies to Thais?
Popular Post dunroaming
Cannabis is so readily available in the UK it is unlikely that anyone is going to rush over to Thailand because it is now legalised. Thailand has long been a country of choice for backpackers as drugs and cheap booze are, and always have been, readily available. This goes right back to the sixties. My first trip, (excuse the pun) was actually in 1969 as a continuation of my odyssey to India. And that brings me on to another point about cannabis in general. Just about everyone I know have smoked it at some point. Many have enjoyed the odd joint over the years and still do. Smoking cannabis isn't just about kids today, most of the people I know who still enjoy it are drawing their pensions these days.

That sure will fly! Maybe double-pricing weed will help...

Government statements here are similar to the okey koky. You put your statement in, Your statement out, In out in out You shake it all about You do a rapid volte face And you turn around And that's what its all about. 1
