Bangkok, (CNA) A Thai man who recently fled to Thailand from Taiwan after allegedly murdering two business partners will stand trial in the Southeast Asian country after turning himself in to local police, a Thai official said Friday.

Thailand has jurisdiction in the case involving the suspect, who turned himself in to police in the northern province of Chiang Mai Friday morning, Royal Thai Police Commissioner Suwat Jangyodsuk said during a news conference in Bangkok on Friday afternoon.

The suspect, known as Wang Ta-hsien (王大賢) in Taiwan and named as Santi Supa-apiradeepailin in Thai media reports, flew back to Thailand on June 9 after he allegedly killed a Thai couple, whose bodies were found in a car in Taoyuan on June 10, according to police in Taiwan. The couple reportedly operated a migrant worker recruitment agency in Taiwan with Wang as a business partner.

As Thailand and Taiwan do not have any agreement of mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, Santi, 35, will not be extradited to Taiwan, Thailand's national police chief said.

And so let's get this straight:

Thais can go commit (multiple) murder abroad to any country that doesn't have an "agreement of mutual legal assistance in criminal matters" with Thailand, get back home safely, and "if" caught, go on trial "in" Thailand????

What a !@#$% country this is!!!!!

(p.s. who is paying the shipping of evidence / that car he stuffed the bodies into???...LOL!!!!)

I'm guessing if he was prosecuted in Taiwan the penalties would be more severe.

Probably yes, a quick flight back to Thailand, admit guilt 50% off sentence and out free in 10 years time or less.

There is always a fear China will take control and they are hardly known to be sympathetic. The guy does have Taiwanese Nationality.
