Thai vet becomes first person in the world to get Covid from a cat, Thai media

Daily News Caption: Because the cat sneezed in (the vet's) face

 

Thai media Daily News reported yesterday that a Thai vet is the first reported case in the world to get Covid-19 from a cat.

 

The cat sneezed in the vet's face after getting the virus from its owner.

 

The case has been reported in the New York Times after a study by Songkhla University in the south of Thailand published on June 6th.

 

It started on August 4th last year when a father aged 64 and child aged 32 were tested positive for Covid in Bangkok and went for treatment at Songkhla University on the 8th. They took along their pet cat who had no symptoms.

 

The cat was tested by a 32 year old female vet with nasal and anal swabs. The cat sneezed in the face of the vet who was wearing gloves and a surgical mask but no eye or face shield protection. 

 

On the 13th of August after five days the vet who had no previous sickness started coughing and had a fever and was diagnosed with Covid on August 15th.

might be slow covid day in new york, to report one case from thailand from the last year.

Before that case there were infections by domestic animals in Hong Kong, that in 2020

- the cat actually had Covid?

- the vet caught it from the cat, and not from any other human who she came in contact with?

This sounds very fishy to me!

The vet probably went shopping, to bars, had massages, went to the gym and did lots of other things too.  But yeah, the cat sneezed so it definitely came from the cat.   Clown world.

2 of my cats died, cause (proven)  was Covid and the vets couldn't help them. Sad but true, cats can carry the Covid virus.

I don’t see how it can be proven that the vet caught the virus from the cat unless the vet had no contact with another human being for the period immediately before the cat sneezed in their face, up to the time that they themselves were diagnosed.

 

it’s one possibility of course, but likelihood is that there are other possible sources from which the vet might have contracted Covid.

 

i put this one in the file along with the cancer cure and other Thailand firsts.

Not 100% certain.....could've caught it from a person who visited the clinic, or anybody in public who breathed on him, or in the vicinity...

I think the concern for me is rabies and the fact there are so many running around in packs!

One of mine was already sick from smoke inhalation, but then in the rainy season his condition suddenly worsened and even with oxygen the hospital couldn't save him. They did not test for Covid, though, but I suspect it. I didn't know that the vet could test cats for Covid.

Quite, not the first time this has come up. Holland culled their mink farms quite early on.

Assumptions!  Although cat had no systoms and tested no mentioned after test no systom confirm positive.  Then reported 32 year old son a child I would agree in general Thai men adults are children?  

After contact with father and son he could have rub his eye pick his nose touch his month cat?

Hell let's close the country down again lots of Soi dogs and cats unclaimed?????

This Science article shows how the vet's infection by cat could be proven: by full sequencing of the vet's covid virus. Without that, this infection by cat is only conjecture.

The article is lacking in details, since it was a study done by the university I would guess then part of that study was to compare the virus DNA from the vet and the cat linking them. But sadly the writer could not be bothered to explain what was in the university's study.
